At Heart of Oregon Corps, 16-24-year-old local young people with barriers to success, improve their own lives while gaining job skills on projects that improve the community. In Heart of Oregon's YouthBuild program, local young people improve their lives while improving their community. Participants complete their Diploma or GED while completing pre-apprenticeship training in construction trade skills while building affordable housing in the community, or while completing a childcare and youth development certification and gaining work experience with local non-profit aftercare centers. We're seeking one licensed Teachers to join our dynamic alternative education team serving 16-24-year-olds. The Teacher will coordinate and deliver holistic instruction focused on core academic subjects (one focused in Language Arts/Social Studies), GED preparation, and college and career readiness. Academic content may vary (all Teachers may be required to teach all subjects at times) and includes both core subjects and electives aligned with student interests and interdisciplinary program themes—such as Sustainable Building, Issues in Affordable Housing and Childcare, and other project-based, vocationally relevant learning experiences grounded in real community issues. This full-time position incorporates differentiated instruction, blended learning strategies, and vocational integration to meet the diverse needs of students. Candidates should be passionate about working with young people that have limited access to resources and services and capable of building strong mentoring relationships that foster academic and personal growth. In addition to delivering classroom instruction, the Teacher will develop and adapt curriculum, support GED testing logistics, track student progress, and work closely with a collaborative team of educators, case managers, and vocational trainers. They will also help support students in identifying and pursuing post-secondary goals. The program is located just outside of Sisters, Oregon and in Redmond, Oregon. A consistent work location schedule will be assigned. The position requires driving students to GED tests or service projects (in Heart of Oregon vehicles) and may involve teaching at construction or community worksites throughout the Central Oregon region. The Teacher reports to the Program Director and works as part of a staff team of 12, including one other teaching staff. Heart of Oregon Corps is a large regional non-profit that operates 5 youth training programs. The 12-month program schedule includes 3-5 weeks of non-student time each year (academics are delivered in the summer).QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in curriculum and lesson planning, experience developing individualized education plans, familiarity with assessment tools, and the ability to collaborate in interdisciplinary, team-based settings. Strong classroom management skills and the ability to maintain a positive, supportive, and inclusive learning environment are essential. A minimum of a bachelor's degree and an Oregon State teaching license with endorsements in Language Arts or Social Studies (for one position) at the high school level is required. Bilingual (Spanish/English) skills are a plus. Two years of teaching experience preferred, but we are open to applications from first-year licensed teachers.Physical Requirements:
light duty work in an office setting. Some walking, standing, stooping and occasionally carrying/lifting of items under 25 pounds. Driving regular passenger vehicles. Field trips and services projects may present highly varied physical conditions, but not all field trip or service project duties are essential.BENEFITS
The starting salary for this position is $54,808. Candidates who have experience with multiple subjects, special education, or EFL endorsements, multiple years of teaching experience, and/or bilingual skills can be considered for a higher wage. Raises are considered annually. This is a full-time, year-round, exempt staff position, with employee health, dental and vision benefits paid 100% by the employer. Time off is generous, with 12 paid holidays (which includes 6 days while the offices are closed over the winter holidays), plus 80 hours (2 weeks) paid vacation and 40 hours paid sick time/year. Vacation leave benefits increase to 3 weeks after one year of service.
