What they do
A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

Job Description
- Assist students within Positive Behavioral Interventions
- Work with students in a classroom setting, small group, or one-on-one as needed
- Work collaboratively with all Lead Elementary Teachers
- Plans and leads elective lessons and hands-on projects
- Plan and lead weekly experiential activities (local field trips, museums, opportunities to explore careers, college tours, and transition related activities)
- Assist Adventure Teacher in planning weekly adventure trips (mountain biking, rock climbing, kayaking, canoeing, SUPing, hiking, and other Experiential / Adventure based activities)
- Assist in planning and attend a multi-day adventure and experiential camping trips for the program
