EC-6 Classroom Teachers (Tyler) Job Type/Hours per Week Full-Time/40 Hours; Monday through Friday 7:30am-4:00pm. Job Summary The UT Tyler University Academy Tyler Campus is currently building a pool of qualified applicants for Grade EC-6 Classroom Teachers. UT Tyler University Academy (UTTUA) is an open-enrollment charter school, serving students in Tyler, Longview, and Palestine. We utilize Project and Problem Based Learning models with a STEM focus. The classroom teacher will provide instruction to students both face-to-face through project-based learning and online. The teacher will be supported by a Campus Director, University Academy Central Office Administrators, Professional Development Specialists, and university faculty. Teachers will be expected to participate in graduate level work, and those teachers not currently holding a master's degree will be expected to be enrolled in a program as part of the compensation package. The position will be a 9-month university appointment, predicated on performance, enrollment, and continued successful operations of the charter school. Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks Direct instruction of students. Curriculum development and lesson planning. Classroom and student management. Communication and outreach. Assist with other campus activities as needed: breakfast/lunch duty, pick-up duty, etc. Collaborate with colleagues, including participate in professional learning communities (PLCs) with all the teachers at the campus, as well as teachers at other campuses using distance technologies. Other duties as assigned. Required Education/Experience Bachelor's Degree. Appropriate grade/subject certification. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Competencies Content knowledge; knowledge of curriculum and instruction. Ability to integrate multiple technologies. Ability to integrate project-based learning. Ability to integrate STEM disciplines. Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior. Experience working with special needs students. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to organize teams and meet deadlines. Other Information This position is for 192 days which follow the University Academy District Calendar each school year (varies year-to-year, typically mid-August to early June). This position will have no vacation accrual since summers are off. This position will be paid on a 12-month distribution to have their pay/benefits through the summer. Dependent on start date, the monthly salary may be prorated according to the number of school days remaining (192-day calendar). Additional Information The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
