Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Seeking passionate and dedicated Special Education professionals to make a meaningful difference for the 2026-2027 school year in the scenic Clam Gulch, AK region. Multiple contract opportunities are available serving diverse student populations in supportive educational environments.
Openings include:
Two full-time Special Education teachers working with secondary-age students (grades 9 through post-secondary) with intensive needs at a local high school. One full-time Special Education teacher for intensive needs at the middle school level (grades 6-8), in a self-contained setting with small caseloads (approximately 10 students).
A unique hybrid role:
half-time Special Education, half-time general education teacher for multi-grade elementary students at a fly-in, close-knit rural school—ideal for those seeking adventure and a strong sense of community.
Qualifications:
Active state certification in Special Education. Experience supporting students with intensive or self-contained needs preferred. Comfortable adapting to secondary, middle, or elementary settings as assigned. Flexibility, adaptability, and commitment to individualized student support. Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Key responsibilities:
Develop and implement IEPs tailored to each student's abilities and goals. Collaborate with general education teachers, staff, and families to promote inclusion and achievement. Create supportive, structured classrooms emphasizing growth and safety. Differentiate instruction to meet a variety of learning styles and needs. Maintain accurate records and ongoing assessments, documenting student progress.
