Desired Qualifications:
State licensure or certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) or eligibility to obtain Experience working with students who are blind or have low vision, preferably in a school setting Familiarity with Braille, assistive technologies, and adaptive devices Ability to design and implement individualized education program (IEP) goals specific to visual impairment Strong communication skills for collaboration with students, families, and multidisciplinary teams Organizational skills and flexibility to adapt to various educational settings and student needs
Primary Responsibilities:
Provide direct and consultative services to students with visual impairments, supporting their access to the curriculum Assess functional vision and learning media to inform individualized planning and instructional strategies Collaborate with classroom teachers, related service personnel, and families to promote inclusive practices and maximize student independence Develop and adapt educational materials using accessible formats, such as large print, audio, or tactile graphics Deliver instruction in compensatory skills, orientation and mobility (with appropriate certification), and use of assistive technology Participate in IEP meetings, document progress, and advocate for student needs within educational settings
