Job Description

Primary Purpose

Provide instructional support and targeted academic intervention to elementary students under the direction and supervision of certified teachers and campus administration. Work with individual students and small groups to reinforce classroom instruction, address identified skill gaps, support intervention plans, and assist students in making progress toward grade-level academic expectations.

Qualifications

Education/Certification:

High school diploma or GED

Meet applicable state and federal requirements for educational aides/paraprofessionals

Educational Aide certification, as required by the Texas Education Agency

Must meet requirements applicable to paraprofessionals working in programs supported with federal funds, when applicable

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to work effectively with elementary-age students

Ability to provide academic assistance in reading, language arts, mathematics, and other elementary content areas

Ability to follow teacher-developed instructional and intervention plans

Ability to work with individual students and small groups

Ability to collect and maintain student progress-monitoring data

Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding students and district information

Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, intervention staff, and other school personnel

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Instructional and Intervention Support

Provide targeted academic intervention to individual students and small groups under the direction of certified instructional staff.

Reinforce skills and concepts previously introduced by the classroom teacher.

Assist students who are performing below grade level or who have been identified as needing additional academic support.

Implement teacher-developed intervention activities and instructional strategies with fidelity.

Provide additional practice in foundational reading, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, writing, mathematics, and other identified areas of need.

Adjust the pace and presentation of assigned activities based on student response while remaining within the instructional plan established by the supervising teacher.

Encourage student participation, persistence, independence, and academic confidence.

Assist with intervention groups during designated intervention, enrichment, or MTSS periods.

Support classroom instruction when assigned and provide assistance to students needing additional reinforcement.

Progress Monitoring and Documentation

Administer or assist with curriculum-based measures, screeners, progress-monitoring activities, and other assessments as directed by certified staff.

Accurately record student performance and intervention data.

Maintain intervention logs, student work samples, and other documentation as directed.

Communicate student progress, difficulties, and observed needs to the supervising teacher and appropriate campus staff.

Assist teachers and intervention staff in preparing materials and organizing resources used for intervention.

Maintain confidentiality of student records and personally identifiable student information.

Student Management

Help maintain an instructional environment that is orderly, supportive, positive, and conducive to learning.

Reinforce campus and classroom expectations for student behavior.

Use positive behavior supports and appropriate redirection techniques.

Monitor students during instructional activities and other assigned duties.

Immediately report significant academic, behavioral, safety, or welfare concerns to the appropriate teacher or administrator.

Maintain appropriate professional boundaries with students at all times.

MTSS and Campus Support

Assist with the implementation of campus Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and Response to Intervention (RTI) processes.

Participate in meetings or provide student data and documentation when requested by the supervising teacher or administrator.

Support students receiving Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions as assigned.

Collaborate with classroom teachers, intervention staff, special education staff, and administrators to provide coordinated student support.

Assist with campus testing, student supervision, arrival, dismissal, lunch, recess, and other duties as assigned.

Perform other duties consistent with the role of an educational aide as assigned by the principal or superintendent.

Supervisory Responsibilities

None.

Equipment Used

Computer, Chromebook, copier, instructional technology, audiovisual equipment, calculators, instructional materials, and other equipment necessary to perform assigned duties.

Working Conditions

Mental Demands:

Maintain emotional control under stress; work with frequent interruptions; communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff; follow written and verbal instructions; exercise patience and sound judgment when working with students with varying academic and behavioral needs.

Physical Demands:

Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, and sitting; ability to move throughout classrooms and campus areas; occasional lifting or moving of instructional materials, supplies, and equipment; repetitive hand motions associated with computer and instructional activities.

Environmental Demands:

Work primarily inside a school environment with occasional outdoor duties. May be exposed to noise, student behavioral situations, and changing environmental conditions during supervision duties.

Professional Expectations

The Elementary Interventionist Aide is expected to maintain professional conduct, protect student confidentiality, follow district policies and administrative procedures, work cooperatively with all staff members, and support the educational mission and goals of Lefors Independent School District.
