• Assumes the responsibilities of a special education teacher, including the responsibilities of a teacher as listed in the Prince William County Public Schools Regulation 561.01-1, Certificated Personnel Responsibilities and Duties
• Develops Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), plans curriculum, develops individualized lesson plans, and prepares instructional materials that reflect an understanding of the learning styles and needs of assigned students, considering the Virginia Standards of Learning, local requirements, and physical, emotional, and academic levels of development and serves as a case
• Manager of students with disabilities
• Serves and instructs students who have a variety of disabilities and require specialized instruction who access general education curriculum across the continuum in all areas specified by the IEP
• Utilizes models for teaching and support across the continuum using delivery models such as consult, push in, pull out, small group, and co-teaching as per student IEPs
• Participates in school-based Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) to plan for specially designed instruction and accommodation implementation for students with disabilities to ensure students access the grade level general education standards of learning along with grade level peers for Tier 1 instruction and provides necessary Tier 2/3 interventions as needed to support each student's success • Leverages and coordinates available resources to support the specially designed instruction and accommodations required by students with disabilities • Ensures IEP data collection and quarterly reporting to families about each child's progress on their IEP goals • Develops and implements a variety of effective teaching strategies and techniques; i.

e., hands-on, student interaction, lecture, group work, etc., to present instructional content to the students

• Plans, integrates, and utilizes technology for classroom instruction

• Participates in the development and implementation of Behavioral Intervention Plans using the Functional Behavior Assessment process
• Administers, interprets, and reports standardized test results for purposes of evaluating educational progress and determining eligibility for special education
• Participates in staff, department, and special education committee meetings as required
• Maintains a system of record keeping and data collection following required procedures as outlined in the Special Education Manual
• Compiles and maintains the special education component of Student Education Record as outlined in the Special Education Manual
• Completes Prince William County Public Schools' 30-hour staff development requirement
• Participates in specialized staff development activities to improve job-related skills and apply best practices in working with students with disabilities
• Assigned to provide services and/or teach courses in general education and special education settings as dictated by student IEPs such as courses that focus on core content and/or special education-specific courses/content such as Learning Activity; Reading Strategies; Math Strategies; Life Skills, Social Skills
• When providing services through co-teaching models, collaborates with general education classroom teacher to assess program effectiveness, recommend instructional strategies, ensure implementation of student's required accommodations and/or modifications, provide curriculum coordination between general and special education, and evaluate the student's educational progress
• Consults with general education teacher regarding instructional and behavioral strategies for assigned students in general education classes
• Informs general education teachers of accommodations and modifications required by the students' IEPs
• Plans and supervises assignments for teacher assistant(s) and/or other volunteer(s)
