Category Schools - Deaf / Hard of Hearing Specialist Job Type Contract Step into a role supporting students as a Deaf/Hard of Hearing Specialist, working in a school environment near Charlottesville, VA. This contract opportunity is looking for someone with a passion for creating accessible learning experiences for deaf or hard of hearing students. You'll be an important part of the educational team, collaborating with teachers, staff, and families to help every student reach their potential.

Qualifications:

Certification or licensure as a Teacher of the Deaf/Hard of Hearing, or equivalent credentials Experience working with children who are deaf or hard of hearing in educational settings Proficient in various communication methods, including American Sign Language (ASL), Signed English, or other accommodations Strong ability to adapt lesson plans and teaching techniques to support auditory and communication needs Team player with excellent communication, problem-solving, and collaboration skills Commitment to fostering a supportive, inclusive learning environment for all students

Responsibilities:

Provide direct instruction and specialized support for students who are deaf or hard of hearing Assess students' needs and develop individualized education plans (IEPs) in collaboration with other professionals Collaborate with general education teachers to adapt classroom environments and materials Consult with staff and families about effective strategies and goals for student success Offer resources and support about hearing technology, interpreting services, and classroom accommodations Monitor student progress and document academic and communication development This is a contract position based near Charlottesville, VA, suited for professionals who are ready to make a difference in the lives of their students.
