Job Description
Behavior Support StaffPosition Overview The Behavior Support Staff position is responsible for providing behavioral, emotional, social, and crisis support services to students across all program sites. This role assists students in developing positive coping skills, emotional regulation strategies, communication skills, and appropriate social behaviors within educational, community, and program environments. Behavior Support Staff work closely with the Disability Coordinators, Academic Coordinators, Program Coordinators, families, and educational teams to implement behavior support strategies and create safe, supportive, and structured environments that promote student success. This role is essential in helping students navigate emotional challenges, behavioral barriers, social interactions, and daily transitions while encouraging independence and positive growth. Key ResponsibilitiesBehavioral Support Implement individualized behavior support strategies and intervention plans. Assist students with emotional regulation, coping strategies, and self-management skills. Support students during periods of escalation, frustration, anxiety, or crisis situations. Reinforce positive behaviors and encourage appropriate social interactions. Monitor student behavior patterns and communicate concerns to leadership staff. Assist with de-escalation techniques and crisis prevention strategies. Support students during transitions, group activities, community outings, and daily routines. Student Development & Social Skills Assist students with communication, peer relationships, and conflict resolution. Encourage self-advocacy, problem-solving, and independence. Support social skills groups and behavioral learning activities. Help students build confidence, responsibility, and positive decision-making skills. Promote safe, respectful, and inclusive environments. Collaboration & Team Support Work collaboratively with Disability Coordinators, Academic Coordinators, Tutors, Program Coordinators, and families. Participate in behavior planning meetings, staff trainings, and professional development. Assist with documenting behavioral incidents, progress notes, and intervention outcomes. Support implementation of accommodations, behavior plans, and support strategies. Maintain consistent communication with leadership regarding student needs and concerns. Program & Safety Responsibilities Maintain supervision and safety of students at all times. Assist with classroom management and structured program activities. Follow all organizational safety procedures, confidentiality standards, and behavioral policies. Support crisis response procedures under leadership guidance. Assist with transportation support, transitions, and community-based programming when needed. QualificationsRequired Qualifications High School Diploma or GED required. Experience working with children, adolescents, or young adults with behavioral, emotional, or developmental needs preferred. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to remain calm and professional during challenging situations. Ability to work effectively in team-oriented environments. Understanding of positive behavior support and student-centered approaches. Preferred Qualifications Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, Human Services, Special Education, Child Development, or related field. Experience working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), ADHD, emotional disabilities, behavioral disorders, or intellectual/developmental disabilities. Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) or behavioral intervention training preferred. Experience in educational settings, youth mentoring, after-school programs, or behavioral support services. CPR/First Aid Certification preferred. Ability to maintain professionalism in stressful situations. Organizational and documentation skills. Ability to follow behavioral support plans and intervention strategies. Work Expectations Ability to work at multiple program sites and community locations. Ability to supervise students in educational, recreational, and community settings. Flexibility to work evenings or weekends when necessary. Ability to assist during behavioral crises and emergencies. Ability to physically support student safety when trained and authorized. Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries at all times. Salary Range Estimated salary range based on experience, certifications, education, and responsibilities:
Entry Level:
$17 - $20 per hourExperienced Staff:
$21 - $26 per hourSenior/Highly Experienced Staff:
$27+ per hour Reporting Structure The Behavior Support Staff position reports directly to: Disability Coordinator Program Coordinator Academic Coordinator Executive Assistant Director Behavior Support Staff collaborate with all educational and support departments to ensure students receive comprehensive behavioral and emotional support services. Mission of the Role The mission of the Behavior Support Staff role is to provide compassionate, structured, and individualized behavioral support that helps students develop emotional regulation, social skills, confidence, independence, and positive behaviors necessary for success within school, community, and everyday life environments.Pay:
