Location:
Champlain Valley Union High School This position will remain open until filled. However, applications received within the first seven days of posting will receive priority consideration. Champlain Valley Union High School (CVU) is seeking up to three full-time (one-year, 2025-2026) Behavior Interventionists/Specialists to join our special education team starting immediately. We are looking for passionate, hands-on professionals to provide intensive 1:1 support to students in the areas of personal development, behavior, social cognition, and academics. This position is critical to providing appropriate specialized instruction and accommodations under the supervision of a special educator, employment & transition professional, or classroom teacher. Primary Responsibilities Carrying out instructional activities, tutoring students in academic and vocational skills, and implementing specialized plans. Implementing highly specialized behavior intervention programs and plans in collaboration with the special educator and classroom teacher. Collecting, recording, and analyzing student data (such as interval data, weekly graphs, and progress reports) to evaluate student performance and needs. Facilitating multi-modal communication systems and assistive technologies when applicable to help students participate in instruction and social interactions. Adapting general classroom materials and methods in consultation with the classroom teacher and special educator. Participating in regular coordination and team meetings with teachers, administrators, and families to assess and respond to student needs. Fostering independence by supporting students to participate fully in classroom activities and field trips, while assisting with personal care and mobility as required. The Ideal Candidate Will Possess A Bachelor's degree (preferred) or equivalent training in behavior intervention, communication facilitation, or special education. Two or more years of experience working with students who struggle behaviorally. Proven ability to implement effective classroom management and de-escalation techniques. Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and a high-level problem-solving mindset. Active listening and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate courteously and effectively with students, faculty, and families. High self-control, stress tolerance, and the ability to maintain composure and compassion in difficult or emotionally explosive situations.
