Instructional coaches provide professional development in whole group, small group, and through one on one coaching venues. A variety of coaching methods are used to promote adult learning and support professional growth. This certificated position is supervised by the building principal and funded by the Title I / LAP program in the Teaching for Learning Department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Communication and Building Relationships Builds trusting relationships with teachers in order to allow for rigorous conversation, reflection, and inquiry around teaching practices Encourages reflective dialogue by asking open-ended questions, and using problem and paraphrasing techniques Understands that listening and learning are the keys to developing a successful coaching relationship Collaboration Creates structures and processes for collaborative work that promotes an atmosphere of trust and collegiality and builds on the shared expertise of all Credible Instructional Leader Serves as a change agent who promotes and fosters a professional learning culture grounded in adult learning theory and cutting edge research-based instructional strategies Partners with building leaders to support teacher learning and improves student achievement Demonstrates integrity in developing and providing standards-based instruction when partnering with teachers Professional Development Skillfully facilitates and provides on-going job embedded professional development opportunities for building staff: 1:1, small group, and whole group Supports and leads for the implementation of a guaranteed and viable curriculum among teachers Differentiates professional development opportunities based on disaggregated student data and adult learning priorities Creates structures and processes for collaborative work that promotes collegiality and shared responsibility Data Analysis and Student Achievement Bases all coaching and professional development decisions on teacher and student data Assist teachers in analyzing student data and designing differentiated instructional programs to meet the needs of ALL students Assist in monitoring student progress in order to sustain continuous improvement Lifelong Learner Consistently seeks new experiences and opportunities for learning, rather than taking the stance of an "expert" Demonstrates deep reflection both verbally and in written form Effective Time Manager Balances and prioritizes coaching and other professional duties before, during, and after school hours as well as planning and preparing for these events The preceding list of responsibilities is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary.OTHER RESPONSIBLITIES
Title I/LAP funded coaches assist in fulfilling Title I/LAP reporting requirements, manage the school Title I/LAP budget, monitor eligible Title I/LAP student progress and data, supervise Title I/LAP funded classified staff who provide intervention to eligible students and provide student intervention as determined by school needs assessment.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience Current Washington State Teacher's Certificate with appropriate subject area endorsement(s) Three years of successful classroom teaching experience at relevant level Demonstrates predominantly distinguished marks as measured by the criteria set for teacher evaluationADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Work scheduled hours on a consistent basisPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Successful experience in urban education Deep understanding of the CEL5D instructional framework Proven successful experience in an ethnically diverse school district Knowledge of adult learning theory and facilitating adult learners Knowledge of English language developmentCONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT
