Job Description

Empower students by making education accessible as a skilled educator for individuals with visual impairments. Your expertise in Braille and adapted instructional strategies will support academic, social, and life skills development for students with varying degrees of vision loss. Working within a contract position, youll collaborate with school staff near Seattle, WA to ensure each learners educational environment is inclusive and accommodating.
Qualifications and Experience:
Valid state teaching certification with an endorsement or specialization in Visual Impairment. Proficiency in Braillereading, writing, and production. Experience with adaptive technology, tactile graphics, and accessible instructional materials. History of developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Ability to assess and document students progress, needs, and instructional adjustments. Strong communication skills for working with students, parents, and multidisciplinary teams. Flexibility and creativity in overcoming learning barriers.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver direct instruction in Braille literacy, orientation and mobility, and core academic subjects as needed. Modify curriculum and create accessible classroom materials using Braille and other tactile or auditory formats. Advocate for student accommodations and assistive technology to foster independence and inclusion. Train and support classroom teachers, instructional aides, and families on best practices for working with students who are visually impaired. Conduct functional vision assessments and collaborate on the development and monitoring of IEP goals. Participate in team meetings, progress reporting, and professional development opportunities to remain current in best practices.
