What they do
A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must hold or be eligible to obtain an Idaho Education Credential endorsed in area of application. The candidate needs a current Idaho Certification. Familiarity with the ICS and how that drives curriculum in the classroom is required. Knowledge of implementing Differentiated Instruction is essential. A strong work ethic, strong communication skills, and the ability to work in a collaborative setting with stakeholders, community, staff, students, parents, and administration is a must. The candidate must provide evidence of strong classroom skills and student behavior management as well as a desire to meet the academic and behavior needs of all students. The candidate must be flexible and willing to work creatively with others. The candidate must love working with children.
Teacher:
The successful candidate for this position: Has knowledge of grade level standards and assessments. Works as a team player and collaborates regularly with colleagues to enhance student achievement. Is flexible and willing to explore and implement new strategies. Has a wide repertoire of discipline strategies and implements those effectively in the classroom. Has high expectations for students' academic and behavioral success. Develops positive relationships with students, parents, and staff.
