A Special Education Teacher teaches students who have disabilities, and adapts teaching methods to meet the needs of students. Assesses students and helps to develop individualized education plans that specify the services and accommodations needed for each student. Works in a classroom that includes only students with IEPs, or works with students and teachers in regular classes. For students with severe disabilities, may focus on developing skills for independent living. Works as part of a team that includes therapists, school counselors or social workers.

Conduct classroom activities that support childhood development milestones, including toddler care, preschool teaching, and special education needs. Use classroom management techniques to maintain an organized, safe space conducive to learning and play. Assess children's progress regularly through observations and standardized testing; adapt lesson plans accordingly to meet individual needs. Collaborate with parents, guardians, and colleagues to communicate children's progress and address any behavioral or developmental concerns in compliance with mandated reporting laws. Incorporate Montessori or other specialized educational approaches when appropriate to enhance learning experiences. Qualifications Proven experience working with children across various age groups, including toddlers and preschoolers. Knowledge of childhood development principles, behavior management techniques, and early intervention strategies. Familiarity with curriculum development, lesson planning, and classroom management best practices. Experience teaching physical education, literacy education, math, or specialized programs such as special education or Montessori methods is preferred. Strong communication skills to effectively engage with children, parents, and team members. Ability to adhere to childcare regulations, mandated reporting laws, and health & safety standards.
