The Lead Teacher plans, implements, documents, and supervises daily activities and experiences that support children's physical, social-emotional, cognitive, language, and developmental needs. The Lead Teacher works closely with the Center Director, Assistant Teachers, families, and other staff members to provide quality child care while maintaining compliance with Wisconsin Department of Children and Families (DCF) licensing requirements under Chapter
DCF 251. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Classroom Leadership Plan and implement developmentally appropriate daily learning activities. Provide age-appropriate experiences that support children's development and individual interests. Maintain an organized, clean, safe, and stimulating classroom environment. Establish consistent classroom routines and expectations. Supervise children at all times and maintain required staff-to-child ratios. Provide active supervision and position yourself so children can be observed and heard. Assist children with daily routines, including meals, toileting, diapering, handwashing, rest periods, and transitions. Promote positive social-emotional development and appropriate behavior. Use positive guidance and redirection rather than inappropriate or punitive discipline. Adapt activities and classroom practices to meet individual children's needs. Curriculum and Lesson Planning Develop weekly and daily lesson plans based on children's developmental needs and interests. Provide activities in areas such as: Language and literacy Mathematics Science Art and creativity Music and movement Dramatic play Fine and gross motor development Social-emotional development Sensory exploration Incorporate indoor and outdoor learning experiences. Document children's participation and developmental progress as required by the center. Child Supervision and Safety Maintain direct and active supervision of children. Follow all DCF 251 licensing requirements and center policies. Maintain required classroom ratios and group sizes. Conduct regular attendance and head counts. Follow procedures for arrivals, departures, transitions, field trips, emergencies, and evacuation drills. Immediately report accidents, injuries, incidents, suspected abuse or neglect, and safety concerns according to applicable law and center policy. Maintain confidentiality of child and family information. Follow all health, sanitation, medication, and infection-control procedures. Family Communication Establish professional and respectful relationships with parents and guardians. Communicate regularly with families regarding children's daily experiences, accomplishments, needs, and concerns. Share information with families in accordance with center policies. Maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality. Refer significant developmental, behavioral, health, or safety concerns to the Center Director. Team Responsibilities Work cooperatively with Assistant Teachers and other classroom staff. Provide appropriate direction and support to Assistant Teachers working in the classroom. Participate in staff meetings, training, professional development, and coaching. Communicate classroom needs and concerns to the Center Director. Assist with classroom coverage and transitions when needed. Support the center's policies, procedures, philosophy, and quality-improvement efforts. Documentation and Administrative Responsibilities Complete required attendance records accurately. Complete lesson plans, classroom documentation, developmental observations, and other required records. Maintain accurate child records as assigned. Complete incident and accident reports promptly. Maintain required training and professional-development documentation. Use the center's electronic systems and applications to complete required documentation.
