May substitute for one day or for a longer term absence; may follow lesson plans developed by the regular teacher, or work with teacher who will be out to create new lesson plans and assignments.

Job Description

Must have reliable transportation, be able to pass a state of Alabama background check, have at least a High School Diploma or equivalent, and may have to pass the Work Keys test or have an equivalent to two years of college education. Day-to-day duties include, but are not limited to: Working collaboratively with "ALL" Special education staff to meet the needs of students with special needs Referring all concerns (parental and otherwise) to the case manager Following student schedules as determined by the lead teacher/case manager Reinforcing skills being taught in the classroom Assisting the teacher in IEP/BIP implementation Working with individuals and groups of students as assigned by lead teacher and/or case manager Supervising children assigned to you at all times Assisting the teacher by observing, recording, and charting all data relevant to the student Assisting the teacher with keeping accurate and current records of student performance and accomplishments in academic and developmental activities Carrying out instructional programs designed by the teacher Assisting teacher with maintaining an environment conducive to proper health and safety as well as instruction Assisting the teacher with basic physical management needs of students Full-time positions available with benefits after 90 days. Will be on the Birmingham City School's schedule instead of the typical 8-5.
