Job Description
Substitute Teacher Big House Christian Academy (BHCA) is seeking dependable, flexible, and caring substitute teachers to join our team. We are a Christ-centered private school committed to providing students with a strong academic education grounded in a biblical worldview. Position Overview Substitute teachers provide classroom coverage when a regular teacher is absent and help maintain a positive, structured, and Christ-centered learning environment. Substitutes will follow teacher-provided lesson plans, supervise students, assist with assigned work, and uphold BHCA's classroom expectations and school policies. Responsibilities Follow lesson plans and instructions provided by the classroom teacher Provide appropriate supervision and classroom management Assist students with assignments and classroom activities Maintain a safe, respectful, and encouraging learning environment Uphold BHCA's policies, procedures, and behavioral expectations Model professionalism and Christ-like character in interactions with students, families, and staff Communicate any significant classroom concerns or incidents to school administration Maintain student and family confidentiality Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required Experience working with children or teens preferred Ability to confidently manage a classroom and follow established procedures Dependable, flexible, and able to adapt to different grade levels and classroom environments Strong communication and interpersonal skills Agreement with and willingness to support BHCA's Christian mission and biblical worldview Must successfully complete all required background and fingerprint clearance requirements Schedule This is an as-needed/on-call position based on teacher absences and school needs. Substitute teachers may be contacted in advance or on short notice depending on availability. BHCA operates Monday through Thursday, with the regular school day running from approximately 8:30 AM-3:15 PM.
