At Union ESD, our substitutes play a vital role in ensuring continuity of learning while building meaningful relationships with students and staff. With three K-8 schools serving fewer than 700 students each, substitutes become valued members of our educational community and have the opportunity to make a difference every day. Position Overview The District Substitute provides classroom instruction and supervision in the absence of the regular teacher. This role follows lesson plans, maintains a positive learning environment, and supports students' academic and behavioral expectations while ensuring a safe and productive classroom. Key Responsibilities Implement lesson plans and instructional activities provided by the classroom teacher. Maintain a safe, positive, and productive learning environment. Manage student behavior in accordance with school and district expectations. Supervise students during classroom activities and other assigned duties. Communicate effectively with school staff and administration. Adapt to various grade levels, subjects, and classroom settings. Complete attendance and other required documentation. Promote student engagement and learning during teacher absences. Qualifications High School Diploma or GED required. Arizona Substitute Certificate or eligibility to obtain one. Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card required. Strong communication, organization, and classroom management skills. Ability to work effectively with students, staff, and families. Why Union ESD?
