Children's Center Assistant Director Supervisory Position No Nonexempt Staff Part-time Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Permitted Long Term Substitute Teacher partners with the classroom and supervising Master Teacher to implement the Children's Center Program. The Permitted Long Term Substitute Teacher establishes substantive relationships with the children, parents, and student staff and understands the curriculum goals, child assessments, and classroom systems. With guidance from the Director, Master Teacher and Assistant Director, they assist with the implementation of a quality and developmentally appropriate program within the philosophy of the Children's Center. In addition to supporting the Master Teachers, job duties entail supporting and student teaching staff in order to address issues and concerns related to the program.
Classroom Duties and Responsibilities:
Assume responsibility for the classroom during times the Master Teacher is absent. Assist the Master Teacher and Center administration in planning and carrying out a responsive environment that facilitates the needs and development of children. Apply an understanding of child development in program planning and carrying out at responsive environment that facilitates the needs and development of children. Assist in planning and implementing a balanced and developmentally appropriate curriculum. Assure the safety and well-being of the children at all times by maintaining strict adherence to safety procedures. Conduct daily health checks of children in Master Teacher's absence. Communicate with children in ways that enhance learning, social competence, and emotional health. Maintain awareness of social and emotional needs of the children; share relevant information with Master Teacher and student staff in order to best serve the children. Share responsibility for setting goals for individual children based on their needs. Share responsibility for preparing child assessments and portfolios. Assist in maintenance and preparation of the classroom. Other duties as assigned. Required to be a Mandatory Reporter and sign ASI Mandatory Reporter Form. Assist Master Teacher with Desired Results Developmental Profiles Supervisory Responsibilities - Classroom Assist with training and evaluating student staff and interns. Provide modeling of appropriate adult behavior in relation to children; specifically, model non-authoritarian teaching methods. Give students individual guidance and training, as needed, with activity planning and presentation; limit setting, conflict resolution, supervision, and housekeeping. Encourage teamwork by stressing the importance of working together for the benefit of the children and families. Help to create a team environment that encourages student staff to invest /take pride in the classroom. Supervisory Responsibilities - Program Communicate and meet with Master Teachers, Assistant Director and Director on a regular basis to address classroom and training needs. Communicate regularly with the supervising Master Teachers to ensure program effectiveness Parent Communication Communicate daily with parents in ways that support their parenting roles. Work Experience Requirements:
Education:
BA or BS Degree in Child Development. Must hold a Child Development Permit- At minimum Associate Level Permit Must be able to complete at least 21 hours of professional development a year to maintain
Child Development Permit Experience:
Experience supervising adults in an Early Childhood setting highly desirable. At least two years of experience as a teacher of children less than five years of age.
Knowledge and Abilities:
Work effectively within a complex organizational setting and a multi-cultured campus environment. Establish and maintain effective, cooperative and harmonious relationships within for students, staff, co-workers and the general public. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with children, parents and staff. A thorough knowl edge of child development principles, demonstrated through past study, training, experience and ongoing professional growth. Ability to create a physical and emotional environment which nurtures, enriches and challenges children to learn. The ability to set appropriate goals for each child, to plan for their achievement, and to accept each child's individual uniqueness. Able to work under minimum supervision. Capable of giving clear written and verbal instructions. Capable of following verbal and written instructions. Dependable and timely. Able to share ideas in a constructive and positive manner Able to listen to and objectively consider ideas and suggestions from others. Able to keep commitments; keep others informed of work progress, timetables and issues. Address problems and issues constructively to find mutually acceptable and practical business solutions. Additional Requirements:
Typical Working Conditions:
Work is conducted in a busy, open, temperature-controlled office environment, and in the outdoor classroom. Face-to-face and telephone contact with staff, students, campus community, other campus personnel and the general public. Art materials, disinfecting solutions, noise, dirt, dust, fumes, odors, inside and outside temperature changes. Contact with staff, children, parents, and the campus community. May come into contact with viruses/diseases.
Physical Requirements:
Required to sit and input into computer for long periods of time, stand, talk, walk; manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; clear verbal and written communication; use of office equipment including computer terminals, telephone, calculator, and other office equipment. Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards. Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards. Must be able to safely carry and lift objects up to 30 lbs.
Special Requirements:
Must be able to pass a urine drug screen. Upon hire employment history and criminal background investigation will be completed. May be required to drive occasionally as needed. Must pass a pre-employment T.B. test prior to commencing work. Must fulfill responsibilities of a CA Mandated Reporter of Child Abuse and sign ASI General Mandated Reporter form. Must provide completed health screen within 30 days of employment. Must provide proof of immunization from measles, pertussis and flu (Flu shot may be declined with written declaration). College level class or professional training in Adult Supervision required within 1st year.
