Nonprofit Overview Formerly known as the Cerebral Palsy Center for the Bay Area, Ability Now Bay Area (ANBA) offers adults with developmental and physical disabilities the most comprehensive and cutting-edge services available. Our unique programs include education, communication, computer literacy, vocational training, wellness, and community integration. We promote self-advocacy, independent living skills, and leisure skills, which enhance our participants' ability to live more independent and fulfilled lives. Position Summary This role is integral to the success of the classes offered within the ADC by providing valuable assistance with a wide range of instructional activities. In addition to supporting the delivery of lessons, the position includes offering direct care support to participants, ensuring that their needs are met both academically and personally. The role also involves fostering a respectful and person-centered learning environment that encourages active participation, engagement, and growth. By maintaining an inclusive and supportive atmosphere, the position plays a crucial role in helping participants make progress towards their learning objectives, which may include improving communication skills, enhancing life skills, fostering social interactions, and building confidence in various aspects of their daily lives. Through these efforts, the individual in this role contributes significantly to the overall success and well-being of the participants, helping them make meaningful progress in their development. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assist instructors in implementing daily lesson plans and scheduled activities Accompany and support participants during activities Encourage participation and engagement in lessons Provide direct support as it relates to each participant's needs Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom Promote an inclusive and person-centered environment Assist in adapting teaching methods based on diverse learning styles Manage a small case load of advisee's Monitor any behavioral, emotional, or physical changes in participants and report to management when needed Participate in teaching team meetings and staff trainings Manage a caseload of advisees, remaining up to date with related paperwork Provide direct 1:1 supervision and support to the assigned participant throughout the program day. Implement behavior support plans and follow all guidelines for positive behavior management. Document daily progress notes, incidents, and observations as required by agency policy. Additional Job Requirements Transportation support- assist participants in getting to buses Support other departments as necessary Assist with walking or pushing participants to classes Comply with all Ability Now Bay Area policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook and published policies Check StoriiCare and email daily, and respond to emails promptly Perform other duties as assigned Education and Experience Current CPR and First Aid certificates are required. Must be able to communicate readily and effectively in English, orally and in writing. The right candidate will demonstrate a track record of positive interactions with colleagues, the desire to learn and grow, and the commitment to support adults with developmental disabilities in a positive, engaging learning environment. Communication and Reading Comprehension Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents and to utilize electronic devices for tasks including timekeeping and agency communication. Reasoning Ability Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to adapt to varied and changing circumstances. Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or listen. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Must be able to safely perform all physical and manual movements needed for job functions.
