Job Description
Position Summary The Daily Substitute Teacher is responsible for providing classroom instruction and maintaining a productive learning environment during the absence of the regular classroom teacher. The substitute teacher will implement lesson plans, supervise students, maintain classroom expectations, and support the continuity of instruction and school operations. The Daily Substitute Teacher serves as a positive representative of Banning Lewis Academy by maintaining professionalism, flexibility, and effective classroom management while supporting student learning and school expectations. Key Responsibilities Instruction & Classroom Management Implement lesson plans and instructional activities provided by the classroom teacher Maintain a safe, orderly, and productive classroom environment Supervise students and enforce school and classroom expectations Support student engagement and participation during instructional activities Adapt appropriately to varying classroom environments, grade levels, and subject areas Provide basic instructional assistance and guidance to students as needed Student Supervision & Safety Supervise students during assigned instructional periods and duties Ensure student safety and adherence to school policies and procedures Report disciplinary concerns, safety issues, or incidents to administration promptly Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and interactions with students Communication & Professionalism Communicate effectively with school staff and administration regarding classroom needs or concerns Leave appropriate notes or feedback for the regular classroom teacher regarding the day's activities and student concerns Demonstrate professionalism, punctuality, flexibility, and reliability Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and school matters Operational Responsibilities Arrive on time and prepared for assigned substitute assignments Follow all school procedures, emergency protocols, and instructional expectations Utilize school technology, instructional materials, and classroom resources appropriately Perform additional duties related to classroom coverage and student supervision as assigned by the administration. Qualifications High school diploma required; associate degree or bachelor's degree preferred Substitute authorization or a valid teaching license as required by the State of Colorado Strong classroom management and communication skills Ability to work effectively with students and staff across various grade levels Flexibility and adaptability in a school environment Commitment to maintaining a positive and professional learning environment Ability to successfully pass background check with fingerprinting Preferred Qualifications Previous substitute teaching or classroom experience Experience working with children or adolescents in educational settings Familiarity with classroom technology and instructional practices Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
