Position Overview
Liberal Public Schools is seeking dependable, flexible, and student-focused individuals to serve as School Substitutes throughout USD 480. School Substitutes provide classroom instruction and supervision when regular teachers are absent, helping ensure students continue learning in a safe, respectful, and productive environment.
Substitutes may work at various schools, grade levels, and subject areas depending on district needs and available assignments.
Key Responsibilities
Provide classroom instruction and supervision in the absence of the regular teacher.
Follow lesson plans and instructional materials provided by the classroom teacher.
Maintain a safe, orderly, and positive learning environment.
Manage student behavior and reinforce school and classroom expectations.
Supervise students during classrooms, hallways, lunch, recess, arrival, dismissal, and other assigned activities.
Adapt to different grade levels, subjects, classrooms, and school environments.
Communicate relevant information regarding the school day to the regular teacher or building administration.
Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professional conduct at all times.
Follow district policies, school procedures, and safety expectations.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Hold or be eligible to obtain the appropriate KSDE Substitute Teaching License.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to effectively supervise and work with students.
Dependable, professional, and adaptable to changing assignments.
Ability to follow written lesson plans and instructions.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience working with children or in an educational setting.
Bilingual English/Spanish skills are a plus.

Work Schedule
Substitute / on-call position.
Assignments are based on school and district needs and are not guaranteed every day.
Opportunities may be available at elementary, middle, and high school locations throughout USD 480.
