Under the direction of the School Principal, the English Teacher assesses, plans, and provides engaging learning experiences in English for students in a variety of educational settings. The person in this position is responsible for creating a dynamic and inclusive English education program that fosters English activity, creativity, and appreciation, ensuring that students develop fundamental English skills while engaging with diverse styles and traditions. The English teacher supports students in developing their abilities to the fullest extent possible through differentiated instruction, hands-on experiences, and a supportive learning environment.Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will demonstrate knowledge of: the necessary principles and application of theory into practice for effective instruction and positive behavioral supports that are beneficial for implementation with all students with disabilities; MA content curriculum frameworks and instructional techniques; human behavior, development, and skill performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders; and Ralph C. Mahar Regional policies and effective instructional practices. The English Teacher also demonstrates the ability to provide positive behavioral support to students in a group and in an individual setting; demonstrates an understanding of the federal, state, and local mandates governing the determination and delivery of special education services; completes observations and reports pertaining to learning behaviors of students; displays the ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, central office and school based staff, students, parents and community members. Overall, the special educator possesses excellent human relations skills and a working knowledge of the English language in written and verbal form.Essential Duties:

Instruction & Curriculum Implementation Develop and deliver engaging English Language Arts instruction aligned with Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks for ELA and Literacy. Teach a variety of courses, including literature, composition, creative writing, and media studies. Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs and literacy levels. Foster critical thinking, analytical writing, and effective communication skills. Integrate diverse texts, media, and real-world connections to enhance student engagement. Classroom & Program Management Create a positive, structured, and inclusive learning environment that supports student success. Establish clear expectations for student participation, academic integrity, and respectful discourse. Maintain accurate records of student progress, assessments, and participation. Provide timely feedback and support to students to improve reading comprehension and writing skills. Assessment & Data-Driven Instruction Design and administer formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress. Use assessment data to inform instruction, identify learning gaps, and implement targeted interventions. Prepare students for state and national assessments, such as MCAS (Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System) and SAT/ACT reading and writing sections. Collaboration & Professional Development Work collaboratively with colleagues, school leadership, and district curriculum coordinators to align instructional practices. Communicate regularly with students, parents, and guardians regarding student progress and achievement. Participate in professional development, department meetings, and curriculum planning initiatives. Compliance & School Responsibilities Adhere to state and district policies, including grading, assessment, and accommodations for students with IEPs and 504 plans. Implement classroom accommodations and modifications as needed for diverse learners. Fulfill assigned duties such as supervising students during school events, lunch, or dismissal as required. The teacher must: Have excellent integrity and demonstrate good moral character and initiative. Is ethical and reliable, and meets routine responsibilities consistently. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of child growth and development, effective instructional strategies, classroom management, learning assessment and diagnosis, elementary/early childhood assessments in mathematics and literacy, and research related to learning and best practices Exhibit a personality that demonstrates enthusiasm and interpersonal skills to relate well with students, staff, administration, parents, and the community. Demonstrate the ability to use electronic equipment for word processing, data management, information retrieval, visual and audio presentations, and telecommunications. 5. Possess knowledge and demonstrate understanding of all required components of the Individualized Education Program(IEP). 6. Possess theSEI RETELL
Endorsement for Educators (ELL) 7. Skilled with G-Suite for Education 8. Must have a current Massachusetts Teaching License in English Teacher Grades 5-12Physical Requirement:
Position requires light work exerting up to twenty (20) pounds of force occasionally, and/or ten (10) pounds of force constantly to move objects. Constant hearing, hand-eye coordination/mind-eye coordination; intermittent keyboarding and telephoning. Frequent repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers. Possession of a valid driver's license.POSITION OPEN
