Part-time / Per Diem About Lake Michigan Academy Lake Michigan Academy is a private, non-profit school dedicated to serving students with learning disabilities. We provide a supportive, small-classroom environment where students who learn differently can thrive. At LMA, we focus on empowering students through individualized instruction, fostering self-esteem, and building the skills necessary for lifelong success. The Role We are seeking empathetic, patient, and adaptable Substitute Teachers to join our team. As a substitute at LMA, you aren't just a "placeholder"—you are a vital part of our mission to ensure our students feel supported and understood, even when their primary teacher is away. Responsibilities Implement lesson plans provided by the classroom teacher while maintaining a positive learning environment. Manage small class sizes (average 8 students per class) with a focus on patience and clarity. Provide individualized support to students with diverse learning needs (e.g., ADHD, Dyslexia, Dysgraphia). Maintain classroom expectations and follow school-wide behavioral supports. Collaborate with teachers and staff to ensure a seamless school day.
Qualifications Education:
Minimum of 60 college credit hours (required by Michigan law) or a valid Teaching Certificate.
Experience:
Previous experience working with children or adolescents is preferred; experience in Special Education or with neurodivergent learners is a major plus.
Skills:
Strong communication, flexibility, and a genuine passion for helping students overcome academic challenges.
