A Teacher Apprentice is a pre-service and non-certified teacher who is gaining hands-on experience in a K-12 classroom setting under the direct mentorship of a certified teacher. This apprenticeship provides an opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge from teacher preparation programs to real-world teaching situations. Teacher apprenticeships are directed by the requirements of the TalentTogether program. Individuals selected for this role must be enrolled in the TalentTogether program and actively eligible to participate in the Teacher Apprenticeship.Duties and Responsibilities:
Classroom Observation:
Observe and analyze the teaching strategies, classroom management techniques, and curriculum implementation of the mentor teacher.Lesson Planning:
Assist in developing and implementing lesson plans, activities, and assessments.Instruction:
Under the guidance of the mentor teacher, participate in teaching small groups or individual students.Student Support:
Provide additional support to students, such as tutoring or assisting with homework.Classroom Management:
Contribute to maintaining a positive and productive classroom environment.Professional Development:
Participate in professional development activities and workshops to enhance teaching skills.Communication:
Maintain open and effective communication with the mentor teacher, students, parents, and school administrators.Other Duties:
Perform other duties as assigned by the mentor teacher or school administration.TalentTogether Program Responsibilities/Requirements:
Show continual progress on competencies as outlined in on-the-job learning standards. Help maintain a safe, secure, and healthy educational environment in the classroom. Work with a mentor teacher to implement curricula, including developing and/or customizing lesson plans, delivering lessons, analyzing student work, and assessing student progress towards academic standards. Engage with the students to actively facilitating their learning with gradually increasing instructional responsibilities with the support of a mentor teacher from the mentor teacher over the course of the year. Work with the mentor teacher to develop and practice communication with families in accordance with district, state and federal expectations and requirements. As a school system employee, reports abuse or neglect as a mandated reporter. Complete coursework and training as directed by the education preparation program and training program, such as Talent Together. Participate in all required district professional development and other meetings as required by school leadership. Comply with all IEPs, 504s, and other legally required plans for students Qualifications. Maintain participation in EPP and meet all attendance and professional conduct requirements as established by the EPP and school district. Maintain a minimum grade point average as required by the EPP. Pass teacher Michigan Test(s) for Teacher Certification. Remain employed by school district. Continue to complete competencies as scheduled by the on-the-job training schedule. Effective positive communication skills. Be committed to conflict resolution work with other staff members. Be committed to learning about and implementing the mission and vision of the district and certification program. Be able to perform the physical responsibilities of the role.Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Qualifications Required:
Enrollment in a teacher preparation program at an accredited institution or alternative route program. Strong academic record. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Passion for education and a commitment to student success. Ability to work independently. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Demonstrated ability to follow directions and take initiative.Physical and Mental Requirements:
Must be able to report on a regular and consistent basis. Maintain consistent and punctual attendance. Duties include frequent walking and physical activity, as well as use of hands and arms for signaling and light lifting/carrying. Must have the ability to move about the classroom/building and school property, including bending, pushing/pulling, lifting, twisting, climbing, stooping, or crouching to complete work-related tasks with and without students. The ability to listen and effectively orally communicate information and ideas to a diverse population. Ability to effectively discern information and formulate appropriate action(s). Ability to critically think and provide appropriate solutions. Ability to work effectively and efficiently.Environmental Conditions:
Incumbents work in indoor and outdoor school environments with moderate to loud noise levels, crowds and allergens. Duties may be completed in cold and hot temperatures, including work on slippery and/or uneven surfaces. Work environment includes working around students, school equipment, and office equipment.Work Schedules:
Must be available to report during the school year consistent with the district's school year calendar. May require irregular hours, including evenings and weekends for school events or professional development activities.Compensation:
Compensation is 80% of the Bachelor's Degree, Step 5 of the TCEA Salary Schedule for the 2026/27 school year. Standard benefits including paid time off and health insurance are included.Background Checks:
