Job Description

Category Schools - Paraprofessional Job Type Contract Seeking skilled paraprofessionals interested in a rewarding contract opportunity supporting K-12 students across North Kansas City. This role opens in late August and runs throughout the academic year, with flexibility to work in a variety of settings - you may work between multiple sites among the district's 22 elementary, 6 middle, and 5 high schools, supporting both general and special education classrooms. Ideal candidates are comfortable assisting with toileting, changing, and behavioral challenges, and bring a collaborative approach to working with teachers, aides, therapists, and other support professionals. Whether one-on-one or general classroom support, you'll play a vital role in implementing behavior intervention plans and ensuring a respectful, inclusive learning environment.
Qualifications & Experience:
Current valid Substitute Certificate listed on the DESE website or completion of ParaPro Exam and verified transcripts (must be active before district interview) Ability to float among school sites as needed throughout the year Experience supporting students with diverse behavioral and physical needs Strong communication skills for collaboration with multidisciplinary teams Previous experience in a school setting and comfort with SPED classrooms Adaptability and openness to K-12 placements; preference for certain grade levels may be considered
Primary Responsibilities:
Provide direct classroom or individualized support to students Assist in implementing instructional and behavioral strategies as directed Support students with personal care, hygiene, and mobility needs as required Foster a safe, respectful, and productive classroom environment Maintain professionalism and ethical standards at all times Schedules vary by school: Middle (7:00am-2:30pm), High (7:30am-3:00pm), Elementary (8:30am-4:00pm or 9:00am-4:30pm), with opportunities for additional positions.
