Job Description
Lower School Substitute Teachers Westtown School seeks experienced substitute teachers for our Lower School, grades pre-Kindergarten to 5th. Qualified candidates should have a solid understanding of the cognitive and social-emotional development of elementary school children. We seek experienced substitute teachers available for per diem and longer-term substitute assignments during the 2026-2027 school year. Qualifications Bachelor's degree required; 1-3 years of relevant experience with elementary-aged children in a classroom or large group setting; Demonstrated passion and joy for working with Lower School students in grades pre-K through 5th; A commitment to social-emotional learning, and some knowledge of child development, differentiated instruction, and inquiry and project-based teaching; Strong student-centered and community-oriented classroom management skills centered on clear expectations, student support and growth, and a restorative solution approach; Strong verbal and written interpersonal communication skills; A demonstrated commitment to enhancing an inclusive school community based on cultural competence, commitment to social justice, and respect for all voices; A collaborative spirit and the ability to connect meaningfully with students, teachers, and staff throughout our diverse community; Strong affinity for the mission and strategic vision of Westtown School and an educational philosophy consistent with the school's Quaker values.
