Immediately Job Description Johnston Public Schools is seeking qualified, dependable, and flexible Substitute Teachers for the 2026-2027 school year. Substitute Teachers play a vital role in maintaining continuity of instruction and a positive learning environment when regular classroom teachers are absent. This position is ideal for individuals who are passionate about education, enjoy working with students, and can adapt quickly to different classroom settings. Key Responsibilities Implement lesson plans provided by the classroom teacher across various grade levels and subject areas Maintain a safe, respectful, and productive classroom environment Manage student behavior in accordance with district policies and procedures Take attendance and maintain accurate records of student participation Communicate effectively with school staff and administration Provide feedback to the regular teacher regarding student progress and any notable issues Follow all district policies, procedures, and emergency protocols Valid Teaching Certification or eligibility to obtain one (in accordance with state regulations) Prior experience working with children or in an educational setting preferred Strong classroom management and communication skills Ability to adapt quickly to new environments and follow instructional plans Reliable, punctual, and professional demeanor Compensation & Benefits Competitive daily rate: $150.00 per day Flexible scheduling - choose assignments based on availability Opportunities for long-term substitute placements Professional development opportunities (if applicable) Working Conditions Assignments may vary across elementary, middle, and high school levels Work schedule typically follows the school day calendar Ability to stand, walk, and engage actively with students throughout the day Equal Opportunity Employer Johnston Public Schools is committed to creating a diverse and inclusive environment and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
