Job Description

SAVANNA is seeking dependable, caring, and adaptable Substitute Educators to support our classrooms when regular educators are unavailable. Substitute Educators play an important role in maintaining a safe, engaging, and nurturing environment while providing consistency for our students and families. SAVANNA is built around creating an environment where children feel loved, valued, and inspired. Our learning environment incorporates creativity, play, art, and exploration, and we expect substitute educators to help carry that experience into the classroom. Key Responsibilities Provide classroom coverage as assigned by SAVANNA leadership. Follow the classroom's established schedule, routines, lesson plans, and educator instructions. Engage children in age-appropriate learning, creative play, art, exploration, and classroom activities. Maintain active supervision of children at all times. Create a warm, positive, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment. Support transitions, meals and snacks, restroom routines, outdoor play, rest periods, and classroom cleanup as needed. Follow SAVANNA's health, safety, sanitation, and child-care procedures, including required health checks and other licensing practices. Maintain classroom organization and help ensure materials and learning spaces are clean and ready for use. Communicate professionally with students, families, educators, and SAVANNA leadership. Promptly communicate any incidents, injuries, behavioral concerns, or other important information to campus leadership. Protect student and family confidentiality. Perform other classroom-support duties as assigned. Qualifications 3+ Years experience High school diploma or equivalent required. Experience working with children in a school, preschool, childcare, camp, or similar environment preferred. Ability to build positive and appropriate relationships with children. Dependable, punctual, flexible, and comfortable stepping into different classrooms and age groups. Strong communication and teamwork skills. Ability to follow classroom plans and leadership direction while adapting appropriately to the needs of the students. Must meet all applicable SAVANNA and state childcare licensing requirements, including required background checks and training. What We're Looking For The ideal Substitute Educator is someone who can walk into a classroom and quickly become a steady, positive presence. They are attentive and responsible while also bringing warmth, creativity, patience, and energy to their interactions with children. Because substitute educators may work across different classrooms, flexibility and reliability are essential. We are looking for team members who understand that even when they are filling in for the day, they are representing the SAVANNA experience for every child and family they encounter. Scheduling This is an as-needed substitute position. Hours and assignments may vary depending on classroom coverage needs. Substitute Educators may be contacted for planned coverage as well as short-notice openings. Our Commitment SAVANNA is committed to providing a welcoming environment for children, families, and team members.
