POSITION SUMMARY

The substitute teacher provides instructional continuity for students when the regularly assigned teacher is absent. The substitute teacher implements lesson plans and instructional activities provided by the classroom teacher, maintains a safe and supportive learning environment, supervises students, and performs other instructional responsibilities as assigned by the principal or designee.

The substitute teacher is expected to demonstrate professionalism, sound judgment, dependability, flexibility, and a commitment to student learning and the mission of the school division. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Reports to the assigned school and classroom on time and prepared to fulfill assigned instructional responsibilities.

Reviews and follows lesson plans, instructional materials, classroom procedures, and directions provided by the classroom teacher.

Delivers instruction and learning activities consistent with the teacher's plans and school division expectations.

Maintains a safe, orderly, respectful, and productive learning environment.

Manages student behavior and maintains appropriate classroom expectations.

Supervises students during instructional and assigned non-instructional activities.

Supports the academic, behavioral, and instructional needs of students.

Maintains required attendance, classroom, and student-related records.

Communicates relevant information regarding the school day, student needs, classroom concerns, and unfinished assignments to the appropriate school personnel.

Maintains confidentiality of student and employee information and complies with applicable laws, policies, and procedures.



Follows established procedures for student safety, emergencies, discipline, technology, and other school operations.

Exercises sound judgment and seeks assistance from appropriate school personnel when needed.

Works professionally and cooperatively with students, staff, administrators, and families.

Performs other duties as assigned by the principal or designee.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum of sixty (60) credit hours from an accredited post-secondary institution or career technical facility, passed a ParaProfessional exam, or an Associate's Degree (required) Possession of a valid teaching license (preferred)

Participating in a teacher licensure program (preferred)

Previous classroom teaching experience (preferred)

Experience working with children (preferred)

Knowledge of basic instructional practices and strategies for supporting student learning.

Knowledge of classroom management techniques, student supervision practices, and positive behavior supports.

Knowledge of student safety procedures, confidentiality requirements, and applicable school policies and procedures.

Skill in delivering prepared lessons and explaining directions clearly.

Skill in maintaining an orderly, respectful, and supportive classroom environment.

Skill in communicating professionally with students, staff, administrators, and families.

Skill in maintaining accurate attendance and classroom records and using instructional materials and classroom technology.
