Position:

Program Assistant

• P.

E./Games (Part-Time, 16 hours per week)

Primary Function:

Plans, directs, coaches and conducts sports activities, low organized games, Boys & Girls Clubs of America Curriculum and free periods in the gym and athletic field. Will also facilitate the Passport to Manhood and Triple Play programs.

Williamson Preparatory Academy (Middle & High School), 1567 E. Dublin St, Mobile, AL 36605

Pay Rate :

$15 per hour

Hours:

2:00 p.m

• 6:00 p.m. Monday-Thursday during the school year, 8:00 a.m
• 5:00 p.

m. Mon-Thurs in June and July. (Extra hours, as needed, for evening, weekend, or other special events.)

KEY ROLES

(Essential Job Responsibilities): Prepare youth for success by creating an environment that facilitates participation and achievement. Maintain proper discipline, ensuring mental and physical safety of youth at all times. Accurate inventory and recordkeeping of equipment & supplies used for athletics. Monitor programs, services, and activities to ensure the safety of members and the quality of programs. Recognize Club members for program participation and achievement. Participate in training, branch staff meetings, Professional Development, and in-service days. Assist with field trips as needed and perform other duties as assigned. Assist the Branch Team in maintaining a clean and safe Club environment. Drive Club van, transporting Club members for field trips and to off-site events. (Our insurance requires acceptable driving record for the last three years, and minimum age 25.)

Manhood:

Teaches our young men responsibility, character, leadership, and positive behavior through interactive group sessions that address specific aspects of manhood and healthy decision-making. This program reinforces positive behavior, and gives young people practice in making healthy decisions related to their physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development. Requires ability to create a safe and comfortable environment for our male teens to talk about issues or ask questions regarding things concerning them. Discussion topics may include race, stereotypes within the community, gender and other important topics such as eating healthy, careers, the future, relationships, and hygiene.

Triple Play:

This program promotes the importance of physical activity and proper nutrition through the program's three components of mind, body and soul. Healthy Habits (Mind) addresses the ways an individual's health behaviors are influenced by personal beliefs and exposure to positive modeling. Includes nutrition education and activities that focus on helping youth assess, practice, identify, consider, and recognize health behaviors and messages. Daily Challenges (Body): Intentional focus on physical literacy: Ability

• Increasing capability in basic movement skills and overall fitness; Confidence
• the knowledge and ability to play sports or enjoy other physical activities and Motivation
• the intrinsic enthusiasm for physical activity for members to be physically active for life. Social Recreation (Soul): Emphasis on social and emotional development
• the social, cognitive, and behavioral skills that youth need to be healthy and productive.

There is an explicit focus on emotional regulation, healthy relationships (with self and others), and responsible decision-making. 1.

RELATIONSHIPS

Internal:

Maintains close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel.

External :

Maintains contact with external community groups, members' parents, and others to assist.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

1. High school graduate or equivalent. 2. Minimum of two years of experience in planning, directing, and conducting any variety of organized sports. 3. Good communication skills; ability to work with and instruct youth (especially males). 6. Background working with youth, in particular young people from underserved neighborhoods (relevant experience or education in an informal learning environment, such as homeschooling, Sunday school, or competitive team situation). 7. Effective interpersonal skills, including an ability to get along with people of diverse backgrounds and a talent for making people feel welcome. 8. Demonstrated ability in working with young people, parents, and community leaders. 9. Possess a valid state driver's license and access to dependable transportation.

TRAVEL REQUIRED

Travel between sites and activities, as needed. Will drive Club van for various off-site events.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

The employee is subject to both indoor and outdoor environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

(in performance of essential functions): This position requires the activities of talking and hearing along with intermittent physical activities of stooping, bending, crouching, kneeling, standing, reaching, walking, pushing, pulling, grasping, repetitive motion, and able to lift a minimum of 25 lbs.
