Job Description

The Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law at Arizona State University is seeking applicants to fill the position of Assistant Teaching Professor in its non-JD online graduate program; this is a benefits eligible, academic-year (nine month) position. Teaching faculty positions are non-tenure track appointments on a year-to-year contract. The Assistant Teaching Professor will teach up to eight course offerings per academic year (2-4 courses per semester) in an online environment. As needed, the Assistant Teaching Professor may teach courses in-person, as required by program demands and law school administration. Although the primary responsibility of this position is teaching in an online environment, the Assistant Teaching Professor must be located in the Phoenix area and is expected to attend program meetings, events, activities, and collaborate with the Graduate Programs team at the College of Law (located on ASU's downtown Phoenix campus). The Assistant Teaching Professor may have the opportunity to build and teach new courses, online or in-person. The Assistant Teaching Professor position will be a non-voting member of the ASU law faculty. In addition, the Assistant Teaching Professor will specifically support Graduate Programs administration with academic advising and support services for students (domestic and international) in any of the online Master's degree program, both in person and online, including cultivating academic expectations, promoting student camaraderie, and advancing program excellence. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The law touches every career. Accordingly, students that apply to the Master of Legal Studies (MLS) come from a range of professional backgrounds and are looking to move up the ladder in their current career or to pursue new and exciting career options. The online Master of Legal Studies is a unique advanced legal degree for non-lawyers. This 30-credit program enables professionals to gain a foundation in U.S. law in as little as one year and without pursuing a full law degree. The first required course in each MLS student's program is U.S. Law and Legal Analysis. The MLS program is a customizable degree with a variety of possible emphases (each emphasis is rooted in at least four courses in a particular subject): Corporate and Health Care Compliance Healthcare Law and Administration Business Law Criminal Law Intellectual Property Law Sports Law Land Use and Property Development Law Navajo Nation Law Contract Management Sustainability Law Conflict Resolution Construction Law Federal Contract Law Indian Gaming Tribal-Self Governance Federal Indian Law Arizona Limited Paraprofessional The program explores the relationship between law and a wide variety of topics that are important to fields such as business, criminal justice, engineering, sports, sustainability, education, banking, intellectual property, entrepreneurship, human resources and many others. International students will find the MLS program to be a valuable resource for gaining a general understanding of U.S. law and how decisions are made within the U.S. legal structure. Graduates that earn an MLS degree will have a basic understanding of U.S. law, legal structures, and legal reasoning. Additionally, graduates will be able to apply the law to situations that affect their professional and personal lives, including an understanding of when a legal issue is present that requires an attorney to be involved. The skills and expertise developed in the program are unique and will help differentiate graduates from others in their career fields.

Professional engagement:
Engaging in relevant professional activities, such as presentations, certifications, and publications Required Qualifications J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school, by the time of appointment; Candidates must have experience in Healthcare Law and/or Healthcare Compliance or adjacent areas. Desired Qualifications Prior experience working in higher education; Superior academic credentials and a demonstrated record of, or the potential for, excellence in both teaching and service; Substantive online teaching experience; Experience in curriculum development; Demonstrated commitment to working with faculty, staff, students and communities to advance the principles of the ASU Charter.
