Join our dynamic team of Early Educators as an Associate Teacher at either Sierra College Child Development Center or Partnership Preschool. Job Summary Under the direct supervision of the Teacher, provides care and education to toddler (18 mos - 3 yrs) and preschool-aged (3 yrs - 5 yrs) children in a classroom environment. Supports the Teacher and Site Supervisor in carrying out the overall program goals and objectives.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
The list of essential functions and physical requirements is not exhaustive and may be supplemented, as necessary. Not all functions may be performed by the incumbent. 1. Provides a safe and effective learning environment for toddler and preschool age children enrolled in the program. 2. Assists with planning, developing, and implementing a developmentally appropriate curriculum in a variety of areas (i.e. literacy, numeracy, dramatic play, creative arts, science, nutrition, music, language arts, psychomotor and perceptual development, community and cultural concepts, health, safety, toilet learning, and character development). 3. Supervises children and maintains environments to meet federal, state, and agency standards of health, safety, cleanliness and educational standards. 4. Models effective adult-child relationships and positive guidance techniques for children, parents, college students, and observers. 5. Maintains open communication with staff, children, parents, and college students as appropriate for Associate Teacher role. 6. Assists with recording observations and administering assessments (state and federal) regarding children's progress and development. 7. Implements all policies, procedures, and guidelines. 8. Attends all scheduled staff meetings and workshops. 9. Promotes family engagement and is sensitive and responsive to relevant family issues and special circumstances. 10. Creates a learning environment that respects children and family's cultural and linguistic backgrounds and supports dual language learners. 11. Assists in maintaining student files to ensure compliance with Community Care Licensing and California Department of Education funding terms and conditions. 12. Meets staff attendance requirements. 13. Performs other duties as assigned consistent with the goals and objectives of this position.

Work independently and as a team member with minimal direction; Plan and organize age appropriate activities that will enhance the cognitive, social-emotional and physical development of young children; Maintain an orderly classroom through redirection and positive discipline; Learn appropriate special education teaching techniques through collaboration with special education team members to support students with special needs; Remain calm, patient and professional in times of adversity; Work with and be sensitive to the needs of diverse groups; Operate instructional equipment; Prepare and maintain records with accuracy, completeness, and confidentiality; Learn and interpret rules, regulations, policies, and procedures; Follow oral and written instructions; Communicate effectively both orally and in writing; Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with children, students, parents, staff, and community; Prioritize and schedule work; Maintain the security and confidentiality of student records and information.
Working Conditions Environment:
Indoor/outdoor classroom work environment; Tolerate heat, cold weather, and noisy environments. Physical Demands (with or without reasonable accommodations): Mental acuity to perform these tasks, to make sound decisions and judgments in the sphere of assigned duties and to make determinations relative to the effective performance of the tasks; Facility and stamina to sit, stand, squat, or kneel for extended periods of time; Facility to see, hear and move quickly to provide safe supervision; Facility to perform gross and fine motor skills and activities with children; Facility to see and read printed materials, with or without vision aids; Facility to hear and understand speech on the telephone, and at normal room levels; Facility to speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal conversation in person and on the telephone; Manual dexterity to operate a telephone, computer, copier, calculator, and other commonly used office equipment; Mental acuity to perform simple mathematical calculations, using a calculator; Physical agility to bend, stoop, walk on pavement, climb stairs, and to reach overhead; Kneeling, bending at the waist, and reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally to retrieve and store files and supplies; Physical strength and agility to push, pull, lift, and carry any object weighing up to 40 pounds (small children, activity tables, chairs, and equipment).
Education and Experience:
A combination of training and experience, which would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities, may be qualifying. We reserve the right to determine if a candidate meets the qualifications. Graduation from high school, G.E.D. or equivalent. Possess or eligible to obtain a Child Development Associate Teacher Permit through the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
Qualifications:
o 12 semester units in Early Childhood Education or Child Development specific courses as outlined by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing o 3 semester units in Infant/Toddler courses (required for Toddler program). Can be met with the prerequisite units from above category if qualifying. o 50+ days of instructional experience in a childcare and development program, working at least three hours per day within the last two years. Valid Pediatric First Aid and CPR certification (EMSA qualified) or ability to obtain within first six (6) months of employment
