$30.00-$40.00 per hour, based on experience About the Opportunity A welcoming family in Lafayette is seeking a compassionate, reliable, and experienced 1:1 Inclusion Aide / Paraprofessional to support their child with Down syndrome and Autism who will be attending Transitional Kindergarten (TK) at a nearby private general education school. This is a part-time position for one day per week (Fridays only). The aide will provide individualized support to help the student develop social, communication, self-help, and school-readiness skills while promoting independence and confidence in both community and school settings. The position will begin immediately during the summer, allowing the selected candidate time to build a strong relationship with the child before the start of the school year. During the summer months, the aide will support the child in play-based activities, community outings, and school-readiness experiences designed to strengthen social engagement, communication, independence, and comfort with routines and transitions. The aide will then transition with the student into the TK classroom at the start of the school year, providing continuity of support and helping ensure a successful adjustment to the school environment. The position is hired directly by the family and requires collaboration with teachers, school staff, therapists, and parents to support the student's success. Responsibilities Summer Support and School Readiness Build rapport and establish a positive, trusting relationship with the child. Support participation in play-based activities, community outings, and age-appropriate enrichment experiences. Encourage the development of communication, social interaction, self-help, and independence skills. Assist the child in practicing routines and skills that will support a successful transition to Transitional Kindergarten. Academic and Classroom Support Provide one-on-one support to a Transitional Kindergarten student within a general education classroom. Assist the student in participating in classroom lessons, activities, and routines. Adapt and reinforce learning activities as directed by classroom teachers. Encourage engagement, attention, and participation throughout the school day. Social and Behavioral Support Support the development of positive peer relationships and social skills. Implement positive behavior support strategies and assist with emotional regulation. Help the student navigate classroom expectations and transitions. Independence and Daily Routines Assist with transitions between classroom activities, recess, lunch, and other school routines. Support the development of organizational, communication, self-help, and independence skills. Encourage age-appropriate self-advocacy and confidence. Communication and Collaboration Maintain open communication with parents regarding the student's progress, successes, and challenges. Collaborate professionally with teachers, school staff, therapists, and other service providers. Share observations and feedback that support the student's educational and developmental goals. Student Safety and Well-Being Monitor and support the student's safety and well-being throughout activities and the school day. Provide assistance with daily routines and self-help tasks as needed. Qualifications Required High school diploma or equivalent. Experience working with young children in educational support settings. Experience working with children with developmental disabilities or special needs. Strong communication, patience, flexibility, and problem-solving skills. Preferred Experience supporting children with Down syndrome and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder. Experience in early childhood education, Transitional Kindergarten, preschool, or elementary school settings. Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Education, Child Development, Psychology, Special Education, or a related field. CPR and First Aid certification. Personal Qualities Warm, nurturing, and patient. Requirements Ability to pass a background check. Current TB clearance or willingness to obtain one. Reliable transportation. Consistent availability every Friday.
