Special Education Instructional Assistant (1:1 RSP) 5 hours per day (0.625 FTE), 192 work days The Special Education Instructional Assistant (RSP 1:1) provides individualized support to a student with a disability in order to facilitate access to the general education curriculum and school environment. Working under the direction of certificated staff, this position supports the implementation of the student's Individualized Education Program (IEP), including academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and functional goals. The assistant promotes student independence while ensuring safety and meaningful participation in school activities. Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Provide one-on-one instructional and behavioral support to an assigned student in accordance with the IEP and direction from certificated staff.
- Assist in implementing instructional activities, accommodations, and modifications as designed by the teacher or service providers.
- Support behavior management plans, including prompting appropriate behaviors, de-escalation strategies, and reinforcement systems.
- Provide prompts, cues, and redirection to assist the student in completing tasks and maintaining engagement.
- Adapt and prepare instructional materials to meet individual learning needs.
- Assist with the development and reinforcement of communication, social, and daily living skills.
- Support student safety at all times, including during transitions, recess, lunch, and other school activities.
- Assist with personal care needs as required (e.g., toileting, feeding, mobility), maintaining student dignity and confidentiality.
- Collect data and maintain accurate records on student progress as directed.
- Collaborate with teachers, specialists, and support staff to ensure consistency in implementation of the IEP.
- Foster independence by gradually reducing prompts and supports as appropriate.
- Maintain a positive, respectful, and supportive relatio View Job Description Requirements / Qualifications Education High School Diploma or Equivalent; 2 years of college (48 semester units) OR AA degree (or higher) OR Must pass the Proficiency Test for Instructional Aides (No Child Left Behind exam).
- Ability to sit, talk, and hear; and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
- Ability to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance.
- Ability to stoop, kneel, bend, or crouch
- Ability to assist students throughout the school day.
- Ability to lift, move, or support students as needed. (up to 50 lbs.)
- Ability to respond quickly to ensure student safety. Working Conditions
- Classroom and school campus environment.
- May include exposure to challenging behaviors.
- Work is performed under the supervision of certificated staff.
- Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts.
- Noise level: moderate.
- Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual skills (Spanish-English or other languages) are highly preferred.
