Teaching Assistant SHPEP Western University of Health Sciences - 4.2 Pomona, CA Job Details Part-time $17.00 - $17.50 an hour 2 hours ago Benefits Paid time off Retirement plan Qualifications Computer operation High school diploma or GED Desktop applications Full Job Description The Center for Academic Community Engagement (ACE) is currently offering several teaching assistant (TA) elective experiences to admitted and/or enrolled Western students in all colleges through integrated apprenticeship, laboratory instruction and mentoring during the WesternU SHPEP Summer Health Professions Preparation Program (SHPEP). This TA elective provides multiple opportunities for students to relay their expertise and provide mentorship to undergraduate pre-health professions students enrolled in the SHPEP. Classroom and afternoon dispersed curriculum assistance and gross anatomy lab teaching are areas of expertise needed. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Good verbal and written communication skills to be able to interact with faculty, staff, students, and any outside contacts. Excellent computer skills to use various related software e.g. Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Google Docs, and other software programs required by the position.
Required Qualifications Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent. Any combination of training or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Experience:
1-2 years' experience in a related field. Preferred Qualifications Preference will be given to individuals possessing a bachelor's degree. Previous experience in and academic and/or health care setting is preferred. Essential Job Duties Key Responsibilities Follow all SHPEP policies and procedures. Complete initial SHPEP orientation and training. Attend all SHPEP content-planning meetings. Key Responsibilities Conduct practical support and teaching to reinforce lessons presented by professor including: Lab-based activities such as anatomy dissection and prosection guidance. Instruction on diagnostic instrumentation and teaching simulators Practical physical assessment or therapeutic demonstration. Key Responsibilities Through facilitation, develop an atmosphere of mutual trust and support within the SHPEP cohort. Review material with students one -on one or in a small groups. Key Responsibilities Perform additional duties related to supporting SHPEP operations. Posting Details Continued Work Schedule Normal work hours are Monday-Friday, Part-Time position not to exceed 20 hours per week for the duration of the SHPEP Program for (6 weeks).
