Qualifications Required:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • An AA degree (or equivalent) or passage of proficiency examination in compliance with Education Code and No Child Left Behind Act.
  • Experience working with individuals with special education needs in an organized setting.
  • Sign language skills.
  • Valid California driver's license.
  • First Aid and CPR certification (provided by SLOCOE) must be obtained within 130 days of employment.
  • There is a signing skills assessment that candidates must pass in order to qualify for this position.
All applicants must meet paraprofessional proficiency requirements (48 semester units, AA degree or higher, passage of CBEST test, or proof of
NCLB/ESSA
compliance) If needed, applicants may take the ESSA Paraprofessional Proficiency exam at the SLOCOE Office. The exam is administered by appointment at the SLOCOE Main Office (across from Cuesta College on Highway One). Please call (805) 782-7264 to schedule an appointment.

The position will be working 1:1 with a student and will require riding the bus with the student from San Luis Obispo to San Miguel on a daily basis. The work day is 8.5 hours long and the last 30 minutes of each day will be paid overtime pay (time and a half rate). All applicants must meet minimum qualifications in order to be considered.
