Essential Elements:
Print The job of "Instructional Aide - Special Education" is done for the purpose of assisting (under direct supervision) in the supervision and instruction of special education students; relieving teachers of routine clerical tasks; and assisting students by providing for special health care needs.
Essential Job Functions:
Orients students, parents, substitutes, volunteers and other school personnel for the purpose of providing information on expected behavior and daily living skills of students. Assists students, regular education teachers, parents and specialized treatment personnel as directed by the special education teacher for the purpose of developing student daily living and behavioral skills, meeting their IEP goals and providing basic first aid and/or CPR as may be required. Modifies classroom work/homework, under the direction of the teacher, for the purpose of meeting the goals of student IEP's. Provides first aid and medical assistance to students (tube feeding) for the purpose of providing appropriate care for ill, medically fragile and/or injured children (if required under special education rules and/or policies.) Administers tests for the purpose of evaluating student progress. Monitors classroom activities for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive learning environment. Performs record keeping and basic clerical functions for the purpose of supporting the teacher in maintaining student files; and providing classroom materials. Records student progress reports for the purpose of documenting student performance and maintaining updated records. Essential Job Requirements -

Experience Required :
Prior job related experience, paid or volunteer, with school age children. Skills, Knowledge and/or
Abilities Required :
Skills:
of basic clerical functions; basic arithmetic calculations; operation of standard office equipment; use of English grammar, punctuation and spelling; and provide for special health care needs of students.
Knowledge:
of principles of child development.
Abilities:
to understand and address students with special needs; understand and carry out oral and written instructions; maintain confidentiality of student records; meet schedules and deadlines; read/interpret/apply rules, regulations and policies; read and write English; rapidly learn methods and materials used in a variety of instructional situations. Significant physical abilities include stooping/crouching; reaching/handling; talking/hearing; and near and far visual acuity/depth perception /field of vision.
Education Required :
High School diploma or equivalent; AA degree (or) 48 semester college level units (or) pass equivalency testing. Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or
Testing Required :
TB test; fingerprint clearance; and testing appropriate to the position.
Other Specialized Requirements :
First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certificates are required, as well as any training needed/mandated to provide appropriate care for the medically fragile, ill or injured child.

Must provide proof of high school diploma or equivalent, like the GED, a resume, two (2) letters of recommendation that are dated less than two (2) years ago, signed with an actual signature, not electronically signed or left blank. Proof of current hands on CPR and First Aid certification or proof of enrollment in a hands on CPR and First Aid class that is no more than 2 to 3 weeks out. The verification must be an email confirmation from the place enrolled with the date enrolled, your name and they type of class enrolled in. Online CPR and First Aid will not be accepted. All required documents must be submitted by the closing date and time of this posting.
