Job Description

Job Overview The One-to-One Paraprofessional provides individualized behavioral and instructional support to an assigned student with significant behavioral needs. Under the direction of licensed staff, the paraprofessional helps the student access the general education curriculum, meet Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals, and participate as independently as possible in all parts of the school day. This is currently 2 hours per day moving into a full time position. Duties Provide direct, consistent support to the assigned student across classroom, specials, lunch, recess, transitions, and school activities as outlined in the IEP. Implement accommodations, modifications, and instructional strategies as directed by the special education teacher and general education teachers. Carry out Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and use positive behavior supports consistent with the district PBIS framework. Reinforce academic, communication, social, and self-help skills taught by licensed staff. Assist with personal care needs as required, which may include toileting, feeding, mobility, and hygiene, while protecting student dignity and privacy. Collect and record data on student progress, behavior, and IEP goals using district-approved methods, and share observations with the case manager. Promote student independence by gradually fading support as the student builds skills. Support safe transitions, arrival, and dismissal, and follow the student's health, safety, or emergency plans. Communicate professionally with teachers, related service providers, and administration; direct family communication about programming to the case manager or principal. Maintain strict confidentiality of student records and information in accordance with FERPA and IDEA. Use Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) de-escalation and safety intervention practices, and participate in other required trainings as assigned by the district. Attend meetings as requested, including team planning and, when appropriate, IEP meetings. Perform other related duties as assigned by the principal or superintendent.
Requirements Required:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred:
Experience working with children or youth with disabilities. Training or experience in behavior support, de-escalation, or special education. Current CPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain. Bilingual in English and Spanish. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Patience, flexibility, and a calm, consistent approach with students. Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality. Basic computer skills for data entry and communication. Willingness to learn and apply new strategies through coaching and training. Physical Demands and Work Environment Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and sit on the floor for extended periods. Ability to lift and assist up to 50 pounds, including assisting students with mobility and transfers. Ability to respond quickly to support student safety, including moving with students across campus and outdoors in varying weather. Potential exposure to escalated behaviors and bodily fluids; district training and protective equipment are provided. Terms of Employment Salary, benefits, work year, and working conditions are governed by the Negotiated Agreement between Mountain Valley School District RE-1 and the Mountain Valley Education Association (MVEA). Evaluation of performance will follow district policy and the Negotiated Agreement. This job description is not an exhaustive list of duties. The district may modify duties to meet student needs. Meet federal paraprofessional qualification requirements through one of the following: an associate degree or higher, at least 48 semester hours of college coursework, or a passing score on an approved paraprofessional assessment (such as ParaPro). Obtain Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification within 30 days of employment and maintain it while in the position. Training is provided and paid for by the district. Successful completion of district CBI and FBI fingerprint-based background checks. Ability to follow written and verbal directions and to work effectively as part of an instructional team. Pay:
$18.17 - $26.57 per hour Expected hours: 10.0 per week
