Assists with providing WIC Program participant services. Responsible for performing reception and clerical duties. EEO/AA/Disability/Veteran Responsibilities 1. Assists in the certification of WIC applicants by performing the following duties: Interviewing to obtain basic demographic data such as name, address and contact information; verifying identity, residency and income eligibility by reviewing paperwork presented; entering data into the Statewide "CT-WIC" system. 2. Answers telephone calls in a pleasant and courteous manner, identifying department, and handles requests for general information and, questions about WIC benefits, etc. Schedules appointments appropriately. Checks voicemail messages and follows-up as necessary. 3. Assists in the certification/recertification process. Performs income verification conforming to State policy for determining family size and income. Assures that medical data is complete and within mandated time limit. Follows up as necessary via Epic. Enters appropriate information into the required WIC forms as mandated by the Connecticut WIC State Plan.. 4. Maintains participant files to ensure all required forms are completed and accurate, and scanned under the proper heading. 5. Performs various client follow-up procedures such as appointment reminders and follow-up calls for missed appointments. 6. May assist in the preparation of materials, visual aids and educational and outreach activities in conjunction with other staff. 7. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications
EDUCATION
High school graduate or GED required.
EXPERIENCE
One (1) to three (3) years clerical experience in a position involving multitasking and heavy public contact.
SPECIAL SKILLS
The ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing in English, and another language when deemed appropriate. Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred. Good customer service skills with ability to establish rapport with individuals and deal effectively with people in person and by telephone. Must be detail oriented and organized.
