Position Summary:
The World Language Paraprofessional supports the academic and personal needs of multilingual learners by reinforcing classroom instruction through small-group work, one-to-one support, and scaffolded practice that builds speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills. Working under teacher direction, the paraprofessional adapts and differentiates materials and activities to meet diverse linguistic and learning needs, promotes positive behavior and safety, and fosters independent learning strategies. They accurately track and report student progress toward language-development goals and applicable IEP/504 objectives, collaborate proactively with teachers, specialists, and families, and bring cultural and linguistic sensitivity to advocate for equitable access. Committed to ongoing professional learning, this role helps create an inclusive, student-centered environment where multilingual learners can thrive.
Qualifications :
Eligible for Delaware Paraprofessional Certification through one of the following: High School Diploma plus passing the Paraprofessional Assessment, or Completion of at least two years (60 credits) at an institution of higher learning, or Associate's degree or higher Ability to track and record data accurately Proficient in Haitian Creole and/or Spanish, preferred
Performance Responsibilities :

Interpret meetings and translate documents in Spanish and/or Haitian Creole. Assist with instructional activities for individual students or small groups as assigned by the teacher. Help establish and maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning. Record data on assigned student(s). Supervise and monitor students during assigned duties (hallways, lunchroom, bus duty), ensuring appropriate conduct and safety. Reinforce academic content and classroom expectations taught by the teacher; respond to student behavioral needs with respect and appropriateness. Build positive rapport with students to support engagement and trust. Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, families, and community members. Monitor student activities and behavior to ensure physical safety, appropriate conduct, and adherence to disciplinary expectations. Assist teachers in assessing and evaluating student progress; provide individualized and small-group instruction to reinforce skills per instructional guidelines. Support community, home, and parental communications, especially assisting non-English-speaking families. Serve as a positive role model for students through professional behavior and dress. Perform other duties as assigned
Terms of Employment:
Ten-month (10) full-time employee.

Evaluation:
Performance will be evaluated annually according to the Board's policy on professional personnel evaluation.
