Position Summary Homeschool Classroom is seeking a caring, dependable, and student-centered Teacher Assistant to support students and assist the Lead Teacher in maintaining a safe, positive, and productive learning environment. The Teacher Assistant works under the supervision and direction of the Lead Teacher and provides hands-on support during academic learning, enrichment activities, transitions, and daily classroom routines. Students may represent different ages, grade levels, abilities, and learning needs. Qualifications Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to pass a Level 2 background screening
  • Ability to work effectively with children across multiple ages and grade levels
  • Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills
  • Comfortable using an employer-issued tablet and basic technology
  • Dependable availability Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM-12:30 PM
  • Ability to follow the direction of the Lead Teacher and established Homeschool Classroom procedures Preferred
  • Completion of DCF 40-Hour Child Care Training
  • Previous experience working with children in a school, tutoring, childcare, after-school, camp, youth program, or similar setting
  • Experience supporting students with ADHD, autism, learning disabilities, IEPs, 504 Plans, or other diverse learning needs
  • Familiarity with PBIS, positive behavior supports, or classroom-management strategies Key Responsibilities
  • Work under the direction of the Lead Teacher to support students during approximately 90 minutes of academic learning and 90 minutes of enrichment activities.
  • Circulate throughout the classroom to monitor student engagement, provide encouragement, assist with assignments, and help students remain on task.
  • Reinforce directions and instructional strategies provided by the Lead Teacher.
  • Provide individual or small-group assistance as directed while encouraging student independence.
  • Reinforce Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), classroom expectations, routines, and positive student behaviors.
  • Support students with organization, transitions, task initiation, time management, and self-regulation.
  • Assist with classroom materials, enrichment activities, learning stations, and daily transitions.
  • Carry and appropriately use an employer-issued tablet throughout the workday.
  • Take appropriate photographs of student work and learning activities for documentation in daily electronic session notes.
  • Assist with recording student participation, accomplishments, and progress as directed by the Lead Teacher.
  • Assist with student arrival and dismissal procedures, including electronic check-in/check-out and established student-release procedures as assigned.
  • Complete assigned daily classroom and end-of-day procedures while maintaining student safety, privacy, confidentiality, and professional standards.
  • Promptly communicate academic, behavioral, safety, or other student concerns to the Lead Teacher.
Role Within the Classroom The Teacher Assistant is an important member of the instructional team but does not replace the Lead Teacher's role as the certified instructional professional. The Teacher Assistant helps the classroom run effectively by observing, encouraging, redirecting, documenting, and supporting students while following the Lead Teacher's instructional plan and direction. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate genuinely enjoys working with children and understands that behavior is communication and every student deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. We are looking for someone who is patient, attentive, dependable, encouraging, and comfortable working with students who may learn, communicate, regulate emotions, or complete tasks differently from their peers. The successful Teacher Assistant will know how to be helpful without doing everything for the student, how to redirect without embarrassing a child, and how to work collaboratively under the leadership of a certified teacher.
