Position Summary The Manager Teaching Laboratory is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations, administration, and support of instructional laboratories within the department. This position provides leadership and direction for laboratory staff and serves as a key resource in ensuring that teaching laboratories are fully equipped, safe, and prepared to support instructional, educational, and student learning activities. The manager coordinates laboratory operations, resources, equipment, and personnel to ensure high-quality support for faculty, students, and academic programs in the College of Engineering.

Minimum Qualifications:

This position requires a Bachelor's degree in a field related to the discipline of the work, and one year of related experience.

Degree Equivalency Clause:

Four years of direct experience for a bachelor's degree.

Preferred Qualifications:

Industry certifications in the following subject areas: Microsoft, Cisco, Network+, A+, Dell, and/or Apple are preferred, but not required. Four years experience in an information systems support environment. Working experience with workstation imaging and deployment is preferred.

Foreign Influence Screening:

During the 2021 Florida legislative session, House Bill 7017 ("HB 7017") was passed and later signed into law by Governor DeSantis. The new law modifies a variety of Florida Statutes to address concerns regarding improper foreign influence. With regard to employment at major research institutions like the University of South Florida, the new law requires thorough review of certain applicants for positions involving research. 20%

• Serves the College by overseeing the day-to-day planning, operation, and resolution of College-specific lab service and support needs.

Provides direct assistance and consultation to faculty, staff, and students, requiring strong customer service, communication, and problem-solving skills. Conducts individual and group training sessions as needed and collaborates with college administrators regarding hiring, projects, meetings, and operational initiatives. Consults with laboratory users and serves as a liaison with other college departments and external partners to support College operations. Coordinates and facilitates college and laboratory tours. Manages and oversees laboratory projects, work requests, and College initiatives involving laboratory resources. Leads project teams, coordinates project activities, and ensures deliverables are completed within established deadlines. 25%

• Provides laboratory management, configuration, deployment, maintenance, and troubleshooting for instructional and research hardware, software, peripherals, and specialized applications, including LabVIEW, MATLAB, ANSYS, SolidWorks, Arena, Minitab, Cadence, CodeWarrior, and other software used in teaching and research.

Oversees laboratory operations by installing, configuring, maintaining, and supporting computing hardware, peripherals, and software; coordinating equipment repairs, replacements, and lifecycle management; and ensuring laboratories remain organized, safe, functional, and instructional-ready. Collaborates with faculty, facilities, vendors, and other stakeholders to align laboratory resources and configurations with academic and research requirements. Monitors technology needs and provides responsive support to faculty, staff, students, and laboratory users. 25%•

Application Support:

Provide advanced application and technology support for departmental systems, including troubleshooting incidents, identifying root causes of recurring issues, implementing solutions through established change management processes, and providing technical guidance to faculty, staff, students, and TSS unit support staff. Analyze and resolve complex software, hardware, and system-related issues while ensuring minimal disruption to operations. Maintain instructional and research laboratory environments by installing, configuring, and supporting software and hardware; monitoring technology needs; coordinating equipment repairs and replacements; ensuring laboratory safety requirements are met; and maintaining laboratories in a professional, organized, and instructional-ready condition. Collaborate with faculty, students, facilities personnel, vendors, and external partners to align laboratory resources with instructional needs, support equipment lifecycle management, and ensure effective operation of specialized technologies, including 3D manufacturing equipment such as FDM printers, powder printers, and desktop milling machines. 10%

• Plan and maintain specialized laboratory desktop imaging to ensure the workstation, tools and software are functioning and highly available to faculty, staff and students. 5%
• Provide assistance with technology requirements in classrooms, conference rooms, and other remote locations including, but not limited to, setting up laptops, projectors, network and internet access, wireless microphones, video recording, and telepresence systems. 5%
• Works closely with peers in the USF Information Technologies and Research Computing units to insure the major software tools used by faculty, staff and students are configured, licensed and implemented on University supported systems. 5%
• Perform PC and Macintosh Configuration, installation, and imaging throughout all of the USF College of Engineering in the instances where USF Information Technologies does not support the activity.

Performs miscellaneous information technology support duties as required to meet the needs of the unit. Trouble shoot basic networking, login errors, configuration of specialized drivers for analytical tools. Minor component troubleshooting such as identification of hard disk failure, power supply failure, and overheating. Must be familiar with proper backup procedures and advise computing users as to data best practices. 5%
