Assistant Teacher

Position Summary The Child Development Center Assistant Teacher position exists to provide supportive services to the Lead Teacher in facilitating academic curriculum and educational activities to the Child Development Center children and prepare them for entry into kindergarten. Position assists the Lead Teacher in the facilitation of lesson plans, educational activities, play activities, serving meals and snacks daily; adheres to the YWCA Personnel Policies & Procedures; adheres to all Head Start regulations and Department of Health requirements; and assists in ensuring the achievement of all requirements in contracts as well as certification and the continued success in meeting all deliverables and outcome measures for the child development center. Additionally, position exists to uphold the YWCA of Palm Beach County as an expert in the area of child development and to assist the Center Director in building partnerships, collaborations, and special initiatives to promote the welfare of children and school readiness throughout Palm Beach County. Key Position Duties & Functions Facilitate operations at the organization's child development program by: Working directly with and assisting the Center Director with ensuring the operation of the child development center Assisting the Lead Teacher to facilitate the academic curriculum to center children daily Assisting the Lead Teacher to maintain attendance of children and adhere to classroom and playground schedules Assisting the Lead Teacher to facilitate educational and play activities accordingly daily Assisting is serving meals and snacks, clean up when finished, and nap time Providing adequate supervision of children at all times while implementing activities and safety procedures Determining supplies and materials needed in the classroom in advance of all activities Maintaining a safe and healthy environment for the children at all times Reporting all illnesses and accidents promptly and complete proper incident report forms Keeping children's face and hands clean; change dirty clothing immediately; and send children home clean and properly attired Maintaining informative and positive relationships with parents Promoting good public relations on the telephone, in person, and in the community Assisting with the opening and closing of the center daily Facilitation of Administrative duties Adheres to YWCA Policies and Procedures, Head Start regulations, and all other contract requirements Ensures the adequate supervision each day for each classroom Assists in maintaining the quality assurance of child/parent files Assists in maintaining the appearance and maintenance of classrooms, building, grounds, and outdoor playground. Assists with ensuring the school environment is a safe and healthy environment for the children and guidelines on reporting suspected child abuse, illness, and accidents are adhered to Ensure YWCA Child Development Program remains as the expert in child development/school readiness in Palm Beach County and a well-established and well-known program by: Collaborating and partnering with parents and the community as needed Communicating with Center Director consistently and as needed Attending staff meetings as scheduled or needed Obtaining at least 12 hours of training annually related to child development including maintaining First Aid and CPR Maintaining accurate daily logs, monthly report requirements, and all documentation related to service provision Skills & Abilities Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills Must be prompt; timely and responsive to needs of fast-paced organization Must be able to handle confidential information discretely Knowledge of Title XX and Head Start programs Education 45 Hours Department of Children training Child Development Associate (CDA) or a state awarded certificate that meets or exceeds the requirements for a CDA credential High School Diploma Associate or Bachelor degree (preferred) Experience Minimum (1) year experience working in early childcare
