Position Overview The Assistant Teacher at First Foundations Academy works under the direct supervision and guidance of the Lead Teacher to support the daily operation of the classroom. The Assistant Teacher plays an essential role in creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging learning environment in which every child can thrive. This position requires a team-minded individual who is passionate about early childhood education, demonstrates warmth and patience with young children, and is committed to upholding the Christ-centered values and Georgia DECAL licensing standards of First Foundations Academy. The Assistant Teacher may be responsible for the classroom for brief periods before or after the Lead Teacher's normal work hours in accordance with Georgia DECAL Rule 591-1-1-.31. During these times, all required child-to-staff ratios must be maintained. Daily Responsibilities Assist the Lead Teacher in implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum and daily lesson plans Support individual and group activities designed to promote children's social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development Maintain required child-to-staff ratios at all times in accordance with Georgia DECAL Rule 591-1-1-.32, both indoors and outdoors Actively supervise children during all activities, including meals, naptime, transitions, outdoor play, and field trips Maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment, including upholding proper hygiene and sanitation standards per Georgia DECAL regulations Assist with diapering, toileting, handwashing, and other personal care routines in accordance with center hygiene policies and DECAL standards Communicate warmly and positively with children, families, and colleagues throughout the day Support the Lead Teacher in maintaining accurate daily records and updating BrightWheel with classroom activities, care routines, meals, and child engagements Observe children and share observations with the Lead Teacher to support developmental assessments and individual care plans Follow all center policies, emergency procedures, and Georgia State Licensing Laws as directed Participate in required staff training, in-service days, and professional development activities Report any concerns regarding child health, safety, or suspected abuse or neglect to the Lead Teacher or Director immediately, in compliance with Georgia mandatory reporting requirements This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive. Qualifications Required Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age High school diploma or GED equivalent Must pass all required background checks with a clean record (no history of child or adult abuse/neglect), in compliance with Georgia DECAL Rule 591-1-1-.09 Current CPR and First Aid certification for infants and children, or willingness to obtain within the timeframe required by Georgia DECAL Rule 591-1-1-.14 Genuine love for young children and a commitment to their well-being and development Ability to communicate positively and professionally with children, families, and team members Ability to follow directions and work collaboratively as part of a classroom team Ability to lift 40 pounds; capacity to bend, stoop, and sit on floor level with children Ability to respond quickly and calmly in emergency situations Stamina to work actively throughout the day in various indoor and outdoor environments Willingness to adhere to all Georgia DECAL regulations, center policies, and the Christian mission of First Foundations Academy Preferred Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, Technical Certificate of Credit (TCC), or Technical College Diploma (TCD) in Early Childhood Education or Child Development Previous experience working with infants, toddlers, or preschool-aged children in a licensed child care setting Familiarity with developmentally appropriate practices for early childhood Experience with or willingness to learn the Bright Wheel app Strong organizational skills and a reliable, dependable work ethic Flexible and adaptable to the varying needs of a dynamic classroom environment What We Offer Competitive salary commensurate with education and experience Paid vacation, holidays, and sick time Ongoing professional development opportunities Teacher in-service and training days Supportive, faith-centered work environment with opportunities for growth How to Apply Interested candidates should complete an application and submit professional references upon request.
