bloom work & play is looking for an energetic, dependable, and compassionate Assistant Teacher to join our team! bloom is a community-based day program for young adults with disabilities focused on building confidence, creativity, independence, and meaningful connection . Our days are active, social, and intentionally designed to help our bloomers grow while having fun and being part of their community. What You'll Do As an Assistant Teacher, you'll work alongside our Lead Teacher and team to support bloomers throughout their day. This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys being engaged, taking initiative, and helping others succeed.
Responsibilities include:
Actively engaging with and supporting young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities Assisting with daily programming, activities, life skills, and community-based experiences Supporting bloomers in developing independence, social skills, communication, and confidence Participating in community outings such as shopping, volunteering, recreation, fitness, restaurants, and other local activities Helping facilitate creative, educational, social, and recreational programming Providing individualized support while encouraging bloomers to do as much as possible independently Assisting with transitions, meals, personal needs, and other activities of daily living when necessary Maintaining a safe, positive, inclusive, and respectful environment Communicating and collaborating with Lead Teachers and other bloom team members Helping prepare materials, organize spaces, and keep programming running smoothly Being willing to jump in wherever needed throughout the day Who We're Looking For The right person for bloom is someone who: Genuinely enjoys working with young adults with disabilities Is energetic, positive, patient, and encouraging Takes initiative rather than waiting to be told what to do Is comfortable being active and engaged throughout the day Can build authentic relationships while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries Is dependable and understands that consistent attendance matters to our bloomers and team Works well as part of a team and responds positively to coaching and feedback Is flexible and able to adapt when plans change Believes in focusing on people's strengths and abilities Is comfortable working in the community rather than remaining in a traditional classroom all day Qualifications Must be at least 21 years old High school diploma or equivalent required Experience working with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities is preferred Experience in education, special education, recreation, caregiving, behavioral support, or a related field is a plus Must be able to successfully complete required background screening Must be physically able to participate in an active program that includes walking, community outings, and recreational activities CPR/First Aid certification preferred; training may be provided Reliable transportation and punctual attendance required Must be available a minimum of 16 hours per week About bloom At bloom, we believe adulthood should be filled with opportunities to grow, contribute, create, connect, and belong .
