Job Description

K-5th Grade Special Education Paraprofessional Job Summary The International Charter School of Atlanta (ICSAtlanta) is a state charter school focusing on language immersion, enrolling students from across Georgia, who learn grade-level content in both English and one of our four language tracks - French, German, Spanish, or Mandarin. ICSAtlanta seeks a qualified and passionate paraprofessional to support the lead teacher in an English Language Arts classroom. As a school that embraces international discovery and cultural competency, the ideal teacher will actively develop a multicultural learning environment and have a passion for language immersion education. The curriculum at ICSAtlanta is based on current Georgia education standards with each student receiving instruction in English (L1) and one additional target language known as L2. As a result, teachers work collaboratively in teams of two to ensure that students learn all required standards. A student's exposure to each language will vary based on grade level. For example, students studying French at the Kindergarten and 1st-grade level will receive 80% of classroom instruction time in French and 20% in English. Primary Functions & Essential Responsibilities Provides instructional support by working with small groups and individual students under the supervision of the classroom teacher. Supervise students during recess and the teacher's lunch break and prep period, and other times as required. Assists the licensed teacher in classroom management. Assists with student assessment, grading work and tests, and collecting data on student progress. Assists with routine record keeping. Assists with the preparation of materials for instruction. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level. Participates in staff meetings and professional development opportunities Develops a multi-cultural learning environment for all students that emphasizes a respect for diversity Must be flexible and willing to help in different roles at the school to meet various school needs Qualifications & Experience Associate's Degree, or passing score on the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment test Must support the school's mission, philosophies and goals Classroom experience and/or proven ability to work with children preferred Excellent organizational, planning and implementation skills Proven ability to demonstrate effective communication, professional standards and ethical behavior Ability to work effectively with school administration and school colleagues to ensure school culture and student achievement Must pass a criminal background check and fingerprinting To Apply Please send an email to Human Resources that includes your resume and cover letter explaining your prior work experience and your philosophy on teaching and learning.
