An interim Library Paraeducator at Anderson Elementary (serving grades 2-4) is needed for the remainder 2026-27 School Year. Consideration will be given for the 2027-28 school year based on district needs with the addition of Harvest Crossing Elementary.

Employees who are hired to work 30 or more hours per week are eligible for group insurance and health benefits.

Scope:

Support library/media center operations by assisting students and staff, maintaining an organized learning environment, and supporting instructional and literacy-related activities.

Reports to: Building Administration

Department:

Paraeducator

Qualifications:

Required

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Preferred

Experience working with children/adolescents.

Experience in a library or educational support setting.

Effective communication and organizational skills.

Valid Iowa Paraeducator Certificate.

Performance Responsibilities:

Assist the Teacher Librarian with daily library operations.

Teach lessons created by the Teacher Librarian or other staff as needed.

Support and supervise students during library classes, checkout, and independent work time.

Shelve, organize, and inventory books and instructional materials.

Assist students with locating materials and using library resources.

Help maintain a safe, orderly, and welcoming library environment.

Maintain confidentiality at all times.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Term of Employment:

This is a regular time, 10-month position. The employee is scheduled to work a minimum of thirty (30) hours per week during the school year. Employment is subject to the provisions of Board policy, state and federal law, and the terms outlined in the Paraeducator Department Booklet of the Employee Handbook.

Physical Requirements:

The employee is regularly required to perform paraeducator tasks that involve standing and walking for extended periods; frequent reaching, bending, and stooping; lifting and carrying books and materials; and fine motor skills for shelving, material handling, and computer-based tasks. Pre-employment job-specific testing is required to ensure capability.

Job-Specific Physical Tasks:
Lifting/Carrying:

Occasionally up to 100 lbs.; frequently 25-40 lbs.; constantly lighter repetitive lifting

Pushing/Pulling:

Maximum of 60 lbs. force

Dynamic Lifting Values:

Floor to Knuckle 100 lbs.; 12" to Knuckle 40 lbs.; Knuckle to Shoulder 10 lbs.; Shoulder to Overhead 10 lbs; Push 60 lbs.; Pull 60 lbs.

Bending/Reaching:

Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, reaching, and sustained postures at student level

Hand/Finger Dexterity:

Frequent grip, pinch, and fine motor use for instructional materials, equipment, and documentation

Repetitive Tasks:

Frequent walking, standing, and repetitive physical tasks throughout the workday

Salary and Benefits:

Salary and benefits as determined by the Board of Education and outlined in the Paraeducator Department Booklet of the Employee Handbook.

Starting Rate:

$16.50/hour

Evaluation:

Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of classified personnel.
