Job Description

Join Our Team as a Special Education Consultant! Full-Time | 2026-27 School Year | 192-Day Contract Johnston Office serving the Urbandale school district Are you passionate about helping every student reach their full potential? Heartland AEA is looking for a dedicated Special Education Consultant to join our team for the 2026-27 school year! The Special Education Consultant, in partnership with educators, families and communities, integrates consultative, coaching, and collaborative services within educational systems. Special education consultants are instructional specialists who provide ongoing support to district special education and general education teachers delivering services to students with disabilities. The consultant participates in the identification process and program planning of eligible students as well as working to attain the least restrictive environment appropriate for each eligible individual. Working within the agency's educational framework, the consultant fosters positive learning environments, ensures compliance with state and federal guidelines, and enhances the overall success of learners B-21.
Qualifications:
Qualified candidates must have demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate and communicate with parents, team members, administrators and LEA staff and must also demonstrate strong organizational skills, time management, and the ability to adapt to a changing system. The position requires a master's degree, 4 years teaching experience (2 in special education), and the Special Education Consultant endorsement (or ability to obtain). Job Description
