Job Description

The Pier Learning Center is looking for a Special Education Paraprofessional. The PLC is part of the Pier Center for Autism, a day program of Mid-Step Services. The goal of this program is to serve the needs of students who present a variety of challenges and have not been successful in traditional learning environments. The goal for each student is to transition back to their home school district, demonstrating and generalizing socially acceptable skills and functional communication that they would use in their everyday life. Choose to make a difference and apply today! Paraprofessionals are responsible for supporting teachers and K-6th grade students to meet learning and behavioral needs.
  • Be able to support the implementation of behavior intervention plans and instructional strategies as directed by the Special Education Teacher.
  • Collaborate in team planning and problem solving.
  • Work with students in a small group setting.
  • Engage students academically and socially.
  • Take direction and work collaboratively.
  • Communicate effectively with co-workers and students.
  • Be responsible for data collection and documentation.
  • Assist with material preparation.
  • Possess character traits including flexibility, honesty, integrity
  • Pass agency pre-employment screening.
  • Become crisis management certified (Safety Care - provided by agency)
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Ability to sit, stand, stoop, bend, kneel, squat, run, and walk as needed on a daily basis.
  • Tolerate indoor and outdoor weather conditions and physical activities.
  • Tolerate crying, screaming, yelling, and other loud noises above conversational level.
